For anyone who has been paying the least bit of attention, once again the country is approaching its debt limit. This has been talked about for several months. The Democrats, who want to spend the country into oblivion, have refused to discuss the reining in of any spending on the part of the federal government. Until very recently they have refused to entertain the idea of even talking about spending and any curtailments of that.
In the meantime, the Republicans have passed a bill extending the debt ceiling while incorporating cuts in some federal programs. None of these cuts would affect the big programs like Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security. The cuts did affect things like the 87,000 additional IRS agents that would be sent to harass middle America.
Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has refused to even consider such a bill in the Senate that would entail any decreases in federal spending or even slowing the increase in spending. The Democrats seem to believe that they can do whatever they want to without there being any consequences for their recklessness.
Now that the eleventh hour has arrived, finally the Avatar in the White House has agreed to talk. For 97 days he was told by his owners not to engage in any discussions. The feeling on the Democratic side was that the public would pressure the Republicans into giving in. That has not happened. In fact, a strong majority of Americans support McCarthy’s position of reducing deficit spending. And the rebellious 15 House members who refused to elect McCarthy for a week, are still there expecting him to stand firm.
Since the Democrats are not getting their way, the time to threaten violence has arrived. This was a tactic that was used during the 2020 election campaign. The country was under siege from BLM and Antifa. The FBI did nothing to stop it. The Dems promised a return to civility if only a Democrat was in the White House.
Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal on Tuesday issued the dog whistle. She said there would be a huge backlash in the streets if Joe Biden bends to Speaker McCarthy and agrees to spending cuts. This is a clear signal to BLM and Antifa that rioting, burning and looting will be on the agenda if cuts are made. Jayapal subscribes to the idea that street crime is okay if it pursues a Democratic agenda.
The White House press secretary has joined the spring offensive. Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday said if the US goes into default, there will be a recession and millions of jobs lost. Apparently this will be on top of all the jobs lost already due to the activities of this administration.
According to KJP, ““This is a manufactured crisis, plain and simple…That’s what we’ve been dealing with…Just listen to members of the House Freedom Caucus.”
This ignores the fact that the Republicans have passed a bill that lifts the debt ceiling along with reducing some increases in spending.
If the Republicans get cuts, be ready for the Democrats to unleash the hounds.
