More Appointments

Again, many being announced need confirmation from the Senate.  PDJT was asked to stay out of the leadership fight in the Senate which he did.  He has requested the use of recess appointments which the individuals vying for leadership tacitly indicated they were in favor of.   This should help to get people in their jobs sooner rather than later.

This does not mean that the Senate will abdicate its responsibilities to advise and consent.  It just means that PDJT can put someone in the job that will later be confirmed by the Senate in its constitutional role.  It should not take two years to get people working for The People.

PDJT appoints Tom Homan to position of “Border Czar” in charge of deportation program.  Yes, I said appoints.  This position gains authority and power directly from the Office of the President.  The “Border Czar” is a special presidential appointee with specific instructions and charged authority.  There is no confirmation process for a “czar” position, who operates with the power granted by the Office of the President.  In a very real sense this person is an extension of the President and is helping the President to execute his defined responsibilities.  The Democrats will have difficulty objecting to this since Harris held the same title under Biden.

The question here is not about this man’s qualifications.  It will be about how many obstacles the Left will try to put in his way.

The media is already touting that it cost literally trillions of dollars to get rid of those who are in the country illegally ($88 billion/million/year deported).  The media is trying to scare the country into backing away from this project because it will cost too much.

This 60 Minutes interview was intended to be a trap to show the American people the lunacy of deportation.  Watch the interviewer’s expressions as she poses the questions.

Some people wanted Homan as DHS Secretary.  However, this job appears to fit Homan better.  The laws already exist for handling these people. Homan will work directly with Customs, ICE, the US Bureau of Prisons as well as various levels of law enforcement.  Good selection.

Of course, cost is a legitimate question.  Can deportation be done cheaply?

There may be ways to incentivize people returning to their country of origin on their own.  Now I am not talking about the violent criminals who were released from prison to come here or those who have committed violent crimes while here.  Most rational people agree that these people should be gone yesterday.  And they are the ones who are most likely to present strong resistance.

However, what about the rest of the twenty million who are here illegally?

Ned Barnett has a potential idea.

First, offer them an option.  Go home on your own, and you will be eligible to apply for legal residency, along with anyone else who wants to come to America and who hadn’t broken our laws to get here.  To qualify, all they have to do is leave – and on the way out, file documentation indicating that they had been illegal residents, but were now exercising their option to go to the end of the line and eventually be legally admitted to America.  That’s the carrot – and even though it might take ten years to gain entry, it will be legal, and with a path to eventual citizenship, the one open to everyone who plays by the rules.

What about the stick?  Tell this same population that if the government has to take actions to deport them, they will have to wait for more than the current ten years before even getting to the end of the line for legal immigration, lengthening the time before they can return to America, but this time as legal immigrants.  Since anybody here illegally has at least the chance of running into legal problems and then forcibly deported, many will leave voluntarily.

This could work to make the elimination of a significant number of people with minimal effort.  Already the caravans in Mexico have seen a sharp reduction in the number of people traveling toward the border since Trump won the election.  Knowledge of certain deportation with no option to return to the country could push some people to leave voluntarily.

Homan may be an excellent pick for another reason.

President Trump has announced his nomination of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Sundance notes:

Keeping in mind that Tom Homan is already assigned the one task that Governor Noem would not like to be responsible for, controlling the border and deporting illegal aliens. Both matters are of interest to the Big Ag industry back home.

So, with a streamlined responsibility portfolio, at DHS Noem would be more focused on national security matters that are not tied to border security. The types of national security issues that Noem has a tendency to frame around constitutional freedoms, liberties, and the removal of systems that directly restrict the rights of Americans.   Something, shall we say, directly in her wheelhouse.

America needs someone at DHS who will protect the interests of the American public.  Noem seems to fit the bill.  Now are there others who might be a good fit?  Sure there are.  However, Noem’s elevation to this job creates some interesting possible 3D chess moves.

Noem’s departure from the governorship of South Dakota would create the need for a special election.  John Thune, the recently elected Senate leader, is from South Dakota.  Thune’s wife wants her husband back in South Dakota.  A run for governorship would most likely be a shoo-in for Thune especially if Trump endorsed him.  And Thune has expressed the desire to leave Washington.

As Sundance says, here is the real 3D chess game.

With Rubio removed from SSCI Chair (Secretary of State), there’s an opening for a senior member of the Senate Intel Committee to assume that pretty cushy and important Gang of Eight job.

John Cornyn is a senior member of that SSCI committee, who also happens to be running for Senate Majority Leader.

If Thune takes the carrot of South Dakota Governor, and Cornyn takes the consolation carrot of SSCI Chairman, who does that leave for Senate Leader?

Possible?  Time will tell.
