For The People, Part 1

This is the Orwellian title of legislation (HR 1) proposed by Democrats in the House.  It certainly does not reflect the intent of the legislation. HR 1 is “for the people” like Obamacare was “affordable.”  The more accurate title is “For The Democratic Politicians.”

The first bill put forward by the majority party in a new session of Congress usually lays out that party’s agenda for the next two years.  If that is the case, it seems that Speaker Pelosi and her fellow Democrats are prepared to trample all over the God-given rights of Americans.  The left-leaning ACLU, who normally rubberstamp most Democratic legislation, found this particular piece of legislation a few steps too far even for them.

Despite the fact that many parts of the proposed legislation are clearly unconstitutional, the Democrats forged ahead with the legislation and passed it in the House.   They did this after holding a pep rally on the steps of the Capitol.  The Democrats do not care whether HR 1 is unconstitutional or not.  To the Democrats the Constitution is merely a piece of paper that can be ignored when it suits them.

The legislation fits in with their intent to impose a totalitarian form of government on the country (communism/socialism) with the Democrats in charge.  They want to fundamentally transform America into a country like the old Soviet Union or present day Venezuela.

One of the items in the bill is to override all state laws requiring that a voter show ID when voting.  Multiple studies of both Presidential years and mid-term elections show that millions of illegal aliens have voted.

Such participation has been large enough to possibly change outcomes in multiple elections.  Jesse T. Richman, Gulshan A. Chattha, both of Old Dominion University, and David C. Earnest of George Mason University noted,

“Noncitizen votes likely gave Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress.”

The Democrats say that voter ID laws suppress minority participation in elections.  This is flat out wrong.  Multiple studies have shown that not only is minority participation not suppressed, but, in some cases, minority participation increased after the passage of voter ID laws.   Joseph Kyzer, of North Carolina said,

“While fluctuations in voter participation between election cycles are common, none of the extensive studies on this issue have demonstrated that voter ID decreased total turnout in the thirty-two states that have some form of voter ID.”

The ideas advanced by Democrats that minorities may not be able to find out where to go to get an ID, just display the endemic racism of the Democrats. That is, minorities need help to be able to exercise their right to vote, to participate fully in a civilized society.

What such Voter ID laws hopefully do is suppress the votes of non-citizens.  And isn’t that the point of Voter ID laws?  Non-citizens should not be voting.  Non-citizens should not be obtaining ID’s that allow them to do this.  However, the Democrats need the votes of illegal aliens in order to win elections.  That is why they oppose Voter ID laws.
