Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee, appears to be engaged in a tough battle with Joe Biden over whether the police should be defunded. Yes, that’s right. Joe Biden is fighting with Joe Biden on this issue. And he may not even realize it.
A few short weeks ago Joe Biden was quoted as saying that he was against the movement that was gathering steam across the country to defund the police. Instead, he espoused the “urgent need for reform.”
Biden campaign Director Andrew Bates said at the time,
“As his criminal justice proposal made clear months ago, Vice President Biden does not believe that police should be defunded. He hears and shares the deep grief and frustration of those calling out for change, and is driven to ensure that justice is done and that we put a stop to this terrible pain.”
In fact, part of Biden’s platform called for a $300 million increase in funding for police programs. In an op-ed for USA Today Biden said,
“Don’t defund police, support reforms. I’ve long been a firm believer in the power of community policing — getting cops out of their cruisers and building relationships with the people and the communities they are there to serve and protect. That’s why I’m proposing an additional $300 million to reinvigorate community policing in our country. Every single police department should have the money it needs to institute real reforms like adopting a national use of force standard, buying body cameras and recruiting more diverse police officers.”
On Wednesday, Biden demonstrated that his position has done a complete 180. While crime skyrockets across the country as cowardly mayors and governors refuse to allow police to do their jobs, Biden said that the police have “become the enemy.” Biden also said that funding should be directed elsewhere. In other words, the police should be defunded.

Now it is not unusual for a politician’s position on an issue to “evolve” over time. As the prevailing political winds change directions, some politicians are like weather vanes. They change directions as well. However, usually this is something that takes place over a period of years or even decades.
With Biden he has done this over a matter of weeks. This is probably some kind of world record for flip flopping. Biden has done it while violent crime has been spiraling out of control in some cities. Biden has done this while the National Guard has been called out in multiple cities to quell rioting and looting.
Sleepy Joe does not know if he is coming or going. More and more, Biden appears to be the most anti-American presidential candidate ever. Regardless, someone who is calling the police the enemy should not be running for dog catcher let alone President of the United States.
