News is now surfacing that some NCAA conferences are punting on a full football season. Why this is happening is a topic for another post. While many of us have recognized for some time that higher education in this country has been compromised on the altar of political correctness, the recent lack of intestinal fortitude by Penn State is stunning.
A tweet from Penn State’s liberal arts department declared it welcomed all students. It was deleted after an intense backlash on social media.
Can you guess which part of this tweet was found to objectionable? The radical left will stop at nothing to intimidate conservative students on college campuses. They did it again here. One student said that this tweet “drowned out her voice as an African-American.” Another student threatened the university claiming that the university would suffer “unbearable consequences” if they did not take steps to combat racism. These are just a few of the more benign examples of student response.
College campuses are no longer bastions of higher learning. Leftist professors indoctrinate students with their agendas. These agendas include the idea that America is a hell hole of racism and discrimination. These professors go out of their way to silence conservative students who attempt to engage in the free expression of ideas.
Penn State deleted the tweet. Penn State Director of Strategic Communications William Hessert, Jr said that while the tweet was meant “to express the inclusive, democratic and participatory values of the liberal arts,” the “message was not being received well and it is important for us that our messages be received as intended. While we do not believe in deleting our posts, given the sensitivities of the matter, we felt that it was better to remove it.”
Penn State had an opportunity to show what higher education should be about. However, Penn State caved to the mob just as Democratic mayors and governors have been doing since the riots, looting and general mayhem started. In view of this action, Hessert’s message really was that the viewpoints of conservative students are disgusting and are not welcome at Penn State.
Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley called Penn State’s withdrawal of affirmation to conservative students “perfectly Orwellian.” The university’s “gesture of inclusivity,” he wrote, turned into “a chilling messaging of hostility for conservative students who want to join their community.”
This is just one example of how much power the anarchists and Marxists have on our college campuses. The rioting, looting and violence going in our urban centers around the country are another. It is time to push back.
