A Glimmer of Hope

As most people know by now, the hero of the Ukraine, Vladimir Zelenskyy, showed up in the US on Wednesday to get more payola.  Zelenskyy spoke to Congress at length and was showered with repeated standing ovations.  Very few of the assembled Congress critters did not participate in the fawning and swooning.  Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) were notable exceptions.

What was not reported was that a majority of the US House Republican contingent did NOT attend.  Andrei Martyanov reported:

Only 86 out of 213 Republican members of the US House of Representatives showed up to hear Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky address Congress in Washington on Wednesday, according to The Hill. The snub occurred after the House Foreign Affairs Committee narrowly rejected the proposal for an audit of military and other aid to Ukraine earlier this month.

So, despite the wall-to-wall coverage of what a great guy Zelenskyy is by the bought and paid for media, most House Republicans did NOT join the clapping seals on Wednesday.  Is there growing unrest in the Republican Party over the direction that the corrupt leaders have taken the Party?

Also, it should be noted that an audit of Ukrainian aid was narrowly defeated in the House Foreign Affairs Committee.  Since the Democrats are a majority, this not surprising.  However, the closeness of the issue within the committee indicates that more Republicans are beginning to demand answers to where all the money has gone.  Again, be reminded, that the Democrats refused to allow any oversight of Ukrainian aid.  Just where is the money going and who is benefitting from it?

Why was Zelenskyy brought to the United States?  Was it to lobby for more money?  With the nature of the seals in Washington, it was almost a foregone conclusion that he would get more money.  Our elite politicians are famous for ignoring problems in our own country in order to preen at being generous with our money.  Or was Zelenskyy’s trip a smoke screen to give some politicians cover to allow them to vote for the Omnibus Spending Bill?
