The Harris campaign has hired a campaign director, one Rev. Jennifer Butler, to court people of faith to support the Harris/Walz ticket. Butler’s claim to fame is that she believes that white supremacists have hijacked the Christian faith.
According the Butler, Christians need to “‘come out of the closet’ and witness to the word of justice in the face of a brutal empire asserting its control. I do not disagree with Butler that there are tyrants who are trying to assert control over the public. The ongoing actions of the current Communist Democratic Party are a continuing manifestation of this.
The jailing of J6ers for years on end because they disagreed with the ruling class is just one example of this. The censoring of individuals on social media because they believe in freedom is another example. The incarceration of people who believe that children should not be murdered is a third. Of course, Butler ignores all of this.
I disagree with her when she says that individualism is triumphing over care and concern for neighbors. American exceptionalism has always had component to it where Americans reached out in a way that no other nation has to help others in the face of calamities. This was true regardless of the ethnicity, ideology and religious leanings of such countries.
I also disagree with Butler when she equates white supremacy with Christianity in this country. This is the equivalent of Hillary Clinton calling half the country deplorables because they do not agree with her policy views.
The historic teachings of Christianity have not changed. What Butler is doing here isn’t about religious freedom or bringing people of faith together. It is clearly about polarizing the public and separating people into “good” and “evil” based on their political beliefs.
This reminds me of Joe Biden’s infamous quote. ”I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.” It sounds like Butler is trying to lead people to a similar ideology. “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for Harris or Trump, then you ain’t Christian.”
If Butler was a true Christian, she would be assailing the current administration for all the evil that it has been engaging in. Of course, she is not doing that. I wonder why.
