Businesses have been crippled by two of the central planks of leftism, environmental regulations and DEI initiatives. Environmental regulations mean that power generation has become an issue. DEI initiatives have stripped away the right to hire the best. Neither of these are good for a healthy economy.
Does anyone think that Elon Musk created the companies that he has created by hiring based on DEI? Musk has succeeded because he hires the best people and promotes based on an individual’s contributions to the bottom line. Larry Ellison of Oracle, one of the richest men in the world, does the same thing.
If Harris/Walz is elected, this crippling of the economy will accelerate, as will the pressure to align with government priorities. The government should not be determining where the economy should be headed or what it should be doing. That would be communism. And the whole world knows how terrible communism is.
Under Harris, businesses would therefore be faced with a triple whammy: higher energy costs, creeping mediocrity within both their own company’s and up and down the supply chain and restricted freedoms for strategic development or freedom to operate.
All businesses can see the experience of Disney, Nike, Starbucks, Boeing and Bud-light, and none want to suffer the same fate. Musk, Ellison and others like them see Trump as a savior, restoring their independence, getting them out from under the yoke of a communist government. Trump speaks their language, knows their playbook and has the strength of character to run with, and lead, the pack.
Just how much influence they will have in a Trump administration remains to be seen.
