A few weeks back, a severely disturbed, fifteen-year-old girl shot up the Abundant Life Christian School killing two people in the process. The shooter took her own life as well. Some half a dozen people were injured during the shooting. According to her alleged writings and social media posts, the girl hated the male of the species and wanted to launch an extermination campaign against all males. What the source of such hatred was is unknown. She also demonstrated a deep interest in the Columbine shootings.
Everyone in that school as well as their families are victims of this shooter. All will have to deal with the trauma of this event. Imagine being a parent of a child or children in that school and hearing about the shooting. The terror that such news would engender is almost unimaginable and lasts until you find out that your child is safe.
The Communist Democratic gun grabbers in the White House produced a press release that was knee jerk in its reaction to the shooting.
This is shameful. Nothing in this press release addresses the potential causes of the violence that is being seen in our schools too often. It is just another in a series of despicable demands to disarm America.
Nothing in this list of demands addresses anything that occurred at this school. It is as if someone in the White House pressed a button and this letter was produced.
Peter Heck noted:
- Universal background checks would have done nothing to stop what happened in Madison. It’s already illegal to sell a firearm to a 15-year-old under federal law. No background check was needed to know she shouldn’t have a gun.
- A national red flag law would have done nothing to stop what happened in Madison. You can confiscate guns from someone who is already legally barred from having them.
- A ban on assault weapons would have done nothing to stop what happened in Madison. The crime was committed with a handgun, as are 95% of all gun homicides in America.
- A ban on high-capacity magazines would have done nothing to stop what happened in Madison. This killer used a standard-capacity magazine.
The letter is designed to spearhead fundraising off the tragedy. That’s why there are no attempts to suggest identifying the causes of these horrific events.
Why did this girl hate males? How long was she in counseling? What drugs was she on if any? Had she shown any propensity for violence previously?
These are questions that need answers so that steps might be taken to avoid such a tragedy in the future.
Isn’t it time to stop pretending that guns are the problem, to stop pretending that there are easy answers to the problem of mass shootings? Isn’t it time for open debate on the role that pharmaceuticals play in many of these shootings?
