Just what is going on at ActBlue? The NYTimes reported that ActBlue appears to be in trouble.
ActBlue, the online fund-raising organization that powers Democratic candidates, has plunged into turmoil, with at least seven senior officials resigning late last month and a remaining lawyer suggesting he faced internal retaliation.
The departures from ActBlue, which helps raise money for Democrats running for office at all levels of government, come as the group is under investigation by congressional Republicans. They have advanced legislation that some Democrats warn could be used to debilitate what is the party’s leading fund-raising operation.
The exodus has set off deep concerns about ActBlue’s future. Last week, two unions representing the group’s workers sent a blistering letter to ActBlue’s board of directors that listed the seven officials who had left. The letter described an “alarming pattern” of departures that was “eroding our confidence in the stability of the organization.”
ActBlue is a Democratic Party fundraising platform founded in 2004. ActBlue is a major part of the Democratic Party’s fundraising infrastructure. Supposedly it is focused on mobilizing small-dollar donors. As of June 2024, ActBlue had raised $13.7 billion for Democratic candidates and causes since it was established.
Why did seven high ranking officials leave ActBlue? That is currently a mystery since not one of these departing officials would agree to be interviewed. Could it be that ActBlue’s security measures were so lax that foreign money was being laundered through ActBlue to the Democratic Party? Persistent rumors are that Russia, Iran, China and Venezuela may have been funneling money through ActBlue to Democratic party candidates. Is this how Kamala Harris was able to outraise PDJT by 2 to 1 during the recent presidential election?
A congressional investigation is underway. What will come of that is anybody’s guess. Regardless, the Democrats will cry that the investigation is a biased political stunt to make the Democratic Party look bad. While some people will buy that rubbish, sunlight is making more Americans take a look under the covers. And what they are finding there probably nauseates them.
Is the whole house of cards in danger of collapsing? What will the Democrats do if this source of funding is cutoff?
