2018 has revealed on many levels the extent of the corruption in the DOJ and the FBI. Only people who have been completely brainwashed will fail to see this. Knowing how far back this went, as Sundance over at CTH noted recently, looking back at events that may have appeared not connected at the time may be seen differently now.
As Sundance has noted, the case of Marc Turi takes on a new perspective. Turi admits to a criminal history. He told Fox Business that in the late 1980s, he stole a computer, his roommate’s car, and wrote bad checks including one for $100,000. Through court records, Fox News verified he was arrested, convicted, and served time in an Arizona jail. Turi admitted “In my youth, I made some very, very bad mistakes…I was discharged from the United States Navy other under than honorable conditions…and I’ve been fighting ever since to get that honor back.”
He is also quoted as stating: “I got involved in this business [arms dealing] in the 1990s. I’ve been involved in all type of operations, regarding transportation, logistics, and liaising with those foreign governments.”
How does he fit into all of this? When the Arab Spring reached Libya in 2011, President Barack Obama signed a secret order authorizing covert U.S. government support for “rebel” forces seeking to oust Gaddafi. He did this at the urging of Secretary Clinton. NATO airstrikes were beginning to disrupt Gaddafi’s military chain of command.
Sensing the administration’s support for Libyan “rebels” Turi applied for a permit from the State Department to ship arms from eastern European block countries through Qatar to Libya. Funding was from multiple sources. Two days before he received his permit, DHS raided his home and seized his computer and other records. He never shipped any weapons and he notified those who he was working with that the potential operation was scrubbed.
It turns out that his proposed method for moving the weapons to keep the US Government’s out of the picture is almost exactly what the Obama administration wound up doing via other contractors. This covert operation came to be known as “Operation Zero Footprint.” This was done to minimize the political risk to the Obama administration of supplying weapons to potential terrorist organizations.
As Turi said,
Through emails and other docs arrangements were made for the sending of weapons to Libya and later Syria. Almost immediately the operation went south. The “rebels” in Libya re-directed the weapons to affiliate groups elsewhere including Afghanistan. For the first time in many years our armed forces were facing Stinger missiles there. Even the NYTimesran an article about it.
Of course, the whole operation was in violation of UN sanctions. That’s why it was run the way it was run.
And then Benghazi occurred. Ambassador Stevens was killed along with three others. A firestorm erupted in Washington. The administration tried to blame a videographer for Benghazi. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
The covert operation was gradually exposed for what it was. That is, the attempt by our government for regime change in Libya and Syria. Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh exposed Benghazi for what it was, the center of a gun-running operation.
As Hersh noted in a highly redacted annex to a congressional report,
When questions about Benghazi and Syria refused to die away, a scapegoat was needed. It appears that Marc Turi and the Turi Defense Group were it. In 2014 (almost three years after the raid) the DOJ filed four felony counts against Turi.
Turi was accused of lying to the State Department and violating U.S. arms-export laws. The DOJ’s theory of the case was that Turi’s deal with Qatar ultimately was intended to get around the Libyan embargo. If prosecution was successful, undoubtedly the Obama administration would have painted the entire Libya fiasco as the outgrowth of a rogue arms dealer’s machinations.
The case was puzzling. Turi never delivered any arms. He sought and received State Department approval. And the government failed to seek an indictment for nearly three years.
Turi’s defense was centered on the fact that he was acting on behalf of the US Government. His attorney demanded the use of documents that Turi had in his possession as well as other docs held by the government. DOJ argued against allowing this saying that there were national security issues at play. In the end the judge ordered delivery of such documents by October 5th, 2016.
Two days before the deadline the DOJ dropped all charges. It certainly appears in retrospect that the dismissal was done to prevent exposure of Clinton’s role in the arming of insurgents linked with the Benghazi tragedy right before the election. In other words the dismissal was politically motivated. Now where have we ever seen that before?
This is the modern Democratic Party.
