What will be the next move by Democrats to denigrate and diminish private school education, particularly religious schools, both Catholic and Jewish?
Judge Kavanaugh’s high school Georgetown Prep was defamed and slandered during the Judge’s confirmation process. Based on the hearings one would believe that all that ever went on there was drunkenness, orgies, and a lack of respect for people in general and women in particular. The MSM tried to paint the school as indifferent to the activities of its students. While the main purpose was defame Brett Kavanaugh, if a side effect was the diminishing the education provided there, that was fine with the Democrats.
Fortunately Georgetown Prep had leaders who were not afraid to speak out about the injustice being done to all its students and alumni. These leaders spoke out as good stewards of the education being provided.
The full statement is here.
Fortunately for the country Brett Kavanaugh is a shining example of what a Jesuit education can produce and is a credit to his family and his high school.
Why would the Democrats try to tear down a school like Georgetown Prep? The Democrats fear schools where they cannot control every bit of the curriculum. They fear schools that teach their students to think, to recognize absolutes of good and evil. They fear schools that teach respect for all people not just those with whom one agrees.
With Kavanaugh the Dems projected their own lack of respect for people onto him in hopes of derailing his nomination. If you look at their shock troops (BLM, Antifa, etc.) you know they do not respect anyone who does not agree with them. They shout down those who would differ with them. If that fails, then violence is next or sometimes first. The MSM aids and abets them in this by twisting stories.
The Covington Catholic High School story is another example where the attempt was made to disparage a religious school education. Supposedly the kids were racists, white supremacists, future rapists, etc. Unfortunately in this case the school leaders fell into the trap laid for them by those who would end religious education in this country. They castigated their own students without first looking into the facts of the situation.
Although this was a different arena, once again the center of the firestorm turned out to be exemplary example of a religious education. Nick Sandmann and his classmates, although provoked for more than an hour, never rose up to trying use physicality to end the situation. They demonstrated more respect for their antagonizers than their school leaders did for them. Martin Luther King would have been proud of how they conducted themselves.
What will be the next attempt to control religious education? It appears that the State of New York has decided that only it knows best what should be taught in “non-public” schools. New strict guidelines on what must be taught and how these schools operate have been put into place.
Previously these schools had operated under the concept of “substantial equivalency.” That is, they could run their schools as they saw fit so long as the education provided was substantially equivalent to that received in the public schools. Under this standard, private schools in New York almost always outperformed public schools in providing a good education.
In defending the new approach, the Board of Regents provided the usual public relations release.
However, State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia dropped all pretenses when she said that while “parents have a right to choose a nonpublic school,” she will make sure the students are taught what the state wants. In other words, parents do not have the right to decide what their children are taught.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York warned that the target is on religious schools with the clear intention of either forcing them to submit to the state’s authority or face destruction.
It is clear that the Democrats are afraid of people who come from a private school background. They cannot control these people as easily. Religion has been a thorn in the side of the Democrats for some time. Religious schools are part of this problem for the Democrats. If they can do away with religious education as such, then their job of controlling the public would be made easier.
