In what is clearly a shot across the bow of those who conspired to overthrow the President, AG Barr announced on Thursday on Laura Ingraham’s show that the Russia investigation that shadowed President Donald Trump for the first two years of his administration was started without any basis and amounted to an effort to “sabotage the presidency.”
Let this be repeated. The investigation was started without any basis and was done to “sabotage the presidency!” This is the chief law enforcement officer in America who is saying this. Barr is a man who is very careful about the words he uses in making public statements.
When Barr was first asked about the Obama-led FBI spying on the Trump campaign, Barr said, “I think spying did occur.” Barr pointed out that spying is what confidential human informants do. At that time Barr was careful to point out the issue was predication. Did the DOJ and the FBI have adequate reason to undertake the Crossfire Hurricane operation? Clearly Barr is now saying that the answer is “No.”
Leftist lawyers characterized Barr’s statements on the Ingraham show as “idiotic.” Many across the MSM were quick to point out that Barr offered no evidence to support what he was saying. Of course not. This is an ongoing investigation. This is a criminal matter for which no grand jury indictments have yet been handed down and unsealed. Until indictments are handed down, the evidence uncovered is supposed to remain secret. These statements by leftists are just an attempt to undercut the seriousness of what Barr is saying here.
Of course, in the past the MSM often obtained leaked evidence from sources within the DOJ. One only has to think back to the Special Counsel investigation to understand that. It seemed like leaks were an everyday occurrence at different times during that investigation. These leaks were all in one direction. They were intended to weaken PDJT and his administration. It seems that Barr is making some headways into restoring proper procedures and protocols within the DOJ.
Barr went on to say,
“My own view is that the evidence shows that we’re not dealing with just mistakes or sloppiness. There is something far more troubling here, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it. And if people broke the law, and we can establish that with the evidence, they will be prosecuted.”
In addition, Barr noted,
“I think the president has every right to be frustrated, because I think what happened to him was one of the greatest travesties in American history. Without any basis uh, they, uh, they started this investigation of his campaign; and even more concerning actually, is what happened after the campaign; a whole pattern of events while he was President. uh, So I, to sabotage the presidency; and I think that, uh, or at least had the effect of sabotaging the presidency.”
To repeat, this is coming from a man who is careful with his public pronouncements. Without naming names or using definitive language, he is accusing the coup plotters of being coup plotters. This appears to be a prelude to upcoming events, aka indictments. Barr is sending a message to the plotters. He is also preparing the public for a significantly unsettling event. That would be that high level members of the previous administration were engaged in illegal spying on their political opposition for political purposes. This is the stuff that third world countries are known for.
Retired FBI special agent Mark Wauck of Meaning in History has reviewed the interview and provides some insights into the subtleties.
Wauck is saying that these kinds of cases involving many people take a lot of work that cannot be rushed. There are many people in the country who are frustrated with what appears to be Barr deliberately slow walking the case. Patience is the key to getting the perpetrators of this evil.
This is huge. As Wauck is pointing out, there appear to be multiple human perpetrators. To many of us on the outside, this has seemed to be obvious. However, proving such a thing in court is different thing altogether. Barr seems to be indicating that he feels confident that can be done.
I agree with Matt Wauck. If we assume that that a sprawling prosecution is forthcoming, a narrative describing in plain English what happened is a necessity. It must be made clear to all who are willing to take the time to listen just how corrupt these individuals were. What they appear to have done is a fundamental threat to the survival of this country as a beacon of liberty and freedom.
It is well understood what “without any basis” means. What is even more interesting here are the words “even more concerning” when Barr refers to what happened after the campaign. In our constitutional system, there are not a lot of things that could be more concerning than sabotaging a presidential election. I will leave it to the reader to fill in the blanks with regards to exactly what crime Barr is referring to.
Perhaps the time is coming when all of America will see just how scandal-ridden the “scandal-free” Obama administration was.
