Dr. Stephen Smith, MD is a widely respected, infectious disease specialist in East Orange, NJ and has been practicing for 31 years. He graduated from Yale University in 1989 and specializes in infectious disease medicine. Dr. Smith is a former research scientist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Last month Dr. Smith briefed PDJT on the promise of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as a treatment for COVID-19, calling it a “game changer.” This led to PDJT embracing the drug as a possible effective treatment. The fact that HCQ was being used successfully in other countries had been noted by the media. However, once PDJT endorsed its possible use, the media immediately closed ranks and tried to portray PDJT as anti-science and needlessly putting people’s lives at risk.
Dr. Smith is a well-respected expert. What are the facts? In early April, a poll of 6,200 physicians in 30 countries found hydroxychloroquine to be the best drug available to treat COVID-19.
Dr. Smith said he has seen 100% success in his treatment of 72 seriously ill COVID-19 patients with the drugs touted by the White House, hydroxchloroquine and azithromycin along with zinc sulfate. None of the patients he treated with those drugs for five days or more have had to be put on a ventilator to keep them breathing. Statisticians determined that the likelihood of his result being due to chance at near zero.
“It’s ridiculously low, no matter how you look at it. You worry about selection bias in this situation, but I cannot think of a reason why, if all else is equal, why people that have received five days or more – or even four days or more – of this hydroxychlorquine-azithro regimin wouldn’t get intubated.”
Dr. Smith went on to discuss the drug toxicity. This has been a media rallying point. Some in the media have blasted out the lie that the drug “will kill you.” They have followed this up with statements that PDJT “has blood on his hands” from promoting this drug.
Now all drugs have side effects in some people. This includes aspirin. The media focus has been on the very small possibility of a heart arrhythmia. This has been associated with long term use of the drug in some cases. Dr. Smith noted that in the some 400 clinical trials that have been done on HCQ for many different reasons, NONE have required EKG monitoring as a condition of a FDA-approved study.
Dr. Smith points out,
“People have doubled down on the toxicity of a drug that is not toxic. They’ve gone around and told everybody it’s killing people. It’s not.”
The FDA, he said, has decades of randomized, double-blind studies on hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Smith notes,
“Every one of them has higher doses than anyone is giving for COVID therapy. None of them require EKG monitoring. None of them talk about increased death. It’s a canard.”
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a peer-reviewed study touting the drug as a safe treatment for pancreatic cancer at 1,200 milligrams per day. That’s twice the amount Smith gives to his COVID-19 patients.
Dr. Smith went on to discuss the French study (36 patients). The study was published on March 20th.
Over 10 days, 16 were given nothing and 14 were given 600 milligrams of HCQ daily. The last six, the sickest of the group, received azithromycin (Z-Pak) plus the 600 milligrams of HCQ. Please note that none were given zinc. Zinc as part of the treatment regimen is considered the most efficacious approach.
Of the last six, all were “virologically cleared” of COVID-19 by day five, Smith said.
In the group receiving only HCQ, eight of the 14 were cleared of the virus by day five. Of the 16 who received nothing, only two were cleared.
These results are consistent with what Dr. Smith was seeing in his practice. They are also consistent with the results that many doctors in the real world are seeing.
Dr. Smith specifically addressed the toxicity issue.
“So I measured EKGs in every patient, every day and recruited a physiologist to examine the records. Much to my surprise, even with high-risk patients and those who were taking a third drug, we didn’t see it. I was not expecting that. I was checking to see who I should stop the drug on.”
With these kinds of facts from experts popping up all over the country, why have the media and the Democrats been chanting “this will kill you?” Why are they scaring the bejeezus out of people about a safe and effective treatment? The hysteria of the Democrats and their media allies got so bad that Tavia Galonski (D-OH) called for a referral of PDJT to The Hague for “crimes against humanity.” The real crimes against humanity are being committed by the media with the lies they have propagated about this treatment.
Rick Bright, the immunologist at the CDC who filed that ridiculous whistleblower report (hoping for PDJT to be impeached?), restricted HCQ to hospital settings with clinical trials only. Why? I understand that Bright is not a physician. However, the scientific data show that the sooner the treatment is started, the better. I thought Bright was supposed to be a scientist. Why is Bright ignoring the data?
One needs to remember that the DNC and their allies in the media are interested in only two things, money and power. Are they trying to keep the country shut down in order to win the election in November? With Bright touting the hideously expensive drug remdesivir (11 day clearance) over the cheaper and better alternative HCQ (5 day clearance), is the DNC looking for an infusion of cash into their campaign coffers from Big Pharma? Why is Bright touting a drug that has not received any FDA approvals for use to date? HCQ has received multiple approvals for different conditions.
It seems that if a groundswell can be obtained for remdesivir, that will delay the process of opening up the country. The mantra will become “we have to wait for a cure.” We have already seen this idea being floated in several states with Democratic governors.
This is nonsense. Hopefully the “Open Up America” protests scheduled for today will let these wannabe dictators know that America is seeing through this charade.
It is time to get back to normal.
