According to lyin’ Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Democratic Party members would not be making religion into a litmus test for the Supreme Court. For those who remember Barrett’s confirmation hearings in 2017 for a federal judgeship, the Catholic mother of seven came under fire for her Catholic faith when Democratic senators suggested that her beliefs might make her unfit to serve as a federal judge.
It did not take long before Barrett’s religion has become the central topic at issue. When questioned about her religious beliefs in 2017, Barrett had this to say.
“If you’re asking whether I’m a faithful Catholic, I am, although I would stress that my own personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear on the discharge of my duties as a judge.”
The Democrats then were trying to add religious beliefs as a disqualifier if such beliefs included items that Democrats consider “intolerant.” In particular, these would include a belief that marriage is between a man and a woman as well as the belief that opposes the “right” for women to murder their children.
On Wednesday, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) raised Barrett’s religious views as making her unfit to serve on the Supreme Court. Hirono questioned “whether her closely held views can be separated from her ability to make objective, fair decisions.” Apparently if one is a practicing Christian who tries to follow the teachings of Christ, this disqualifies one from serving. This is where we are in this country at this point in time.
Hirono is known for her anti-Catholic views. In 2019 she harangued a Catholic judge because he belonged to the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic charitable organization. Hirono sent written questions to Brian Buescher during his confirmation period claiming “the Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions. For example, it was reportedly one of the top contributors to California’s Proposition 8 campaign to ban same-sex marriage.”
This was just one step in a long series of such steps taken by the Democrats and their allies on the far left to ban Christianity from the public square. According to these people, the public square must follow the religion of atheism. When people follow the precepts of Chritianity, they are following something other than the government. This is something Democrats cannot abide.
Democrats Katie Hill (yes, that one), Nikitha Rai (Biden campaign), Shadi Hamid, Atima Omara (DNC), Marianne Williamson (former Presidential candidate) and Diane Bray (Colorado Senate) all took potshots at Judge Barrett over her religion. If you are a practicing Catholic, you must be stopped from working in the Federal Judiciary. The Democrats have abandoned any pretense of supporting freedom of religion.
Let’s see what happens with the hearings.
