Breitbart reports that the viewership numbers for the final game of the NBA final series were absolutely atrocious. At its peak the game drew just over 6 million viewers. In 2019 the same game drew over 18 million viewers. It appears that people are saying something about the NBA.
The NBA recently reacted to very low viewership numbers of the early games of the finals by announcing that “Black Lives Matter” would not be allowed on courts or uniforms next season. I guess their own internal surveys are telling them that they made the worst business decision in league history when they decided to allow that. Where was David Stern when the league needed him?
Sunday Night Football featuring a game between the Vikings (a losing record) and Seattle (a non-major market team) drew more viewers than the NBA final. And NFL viewership is down.
As Breitbart’s Warner Todd Huston reports:
I have to agree with Huston. While I was not a fanatic fan of the NBA, I did watch games from time to time. I had no interest in doing so when their season resumed due to the heavy social justice messaging that was present.
All businesses should stick to their core business. This is especially true of pro sports. People watch these games as a diversion from other things, not to be pummeled with messages that they may not agree with.
