This is the best presentation about the absolute evilness of abortion that I have ever heard. The Rev. John Lankeit gave the following somewhat lengthy homily (20 minutes) on October 2, 2016 in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona. It is relevant today as it was then.
In this homily Rev. Lankeit talks about different aspects of decision-making regarding the casting of a Catholic’s vote in an election. During this presentation he speaks of prudential decision making where good people can be on different sides of issues and how those issues might be resolved for the betterment of all. Such issues might include racial injustice, the economy and healthcare. On such issues Rev. Lankeit does not weigh in from the pulpit regarding which might be better.
However, on issues where an intrinsic evil exists, there can be no equivocation about what is right. There can be no vacillating about how to act. These activities can never be permitted, promoted or enabled. Abortion is such an issue.
Rev. Lankeit laid out some areas where our two major political parties disagree on the best approach. These included affirmative action and immigration. He affirmed that it was good that no one would vote for or promote a policy or policies that would allow for the killing of someone in order to advance an individual’s economic or social wellbeing on such issues.
Rev. Lankeit then goes on to destroy the arguments of reproductive rights, a woman’s right to choose and other such statements. He calls out that such slogans cover up what abortion is and what is does. And that is, the stopping of the heartbeat of the most innocent among us.
Without specifically naming the party, Rev. Lankeit goes on to detail their agenda. He predicts that they will try to expand the availability of abortion up to the moment of birth. His prescience on this is extraordinary. The legislature in NY expanded abortion just as he talked about. The Governor of Virginia went even further to promote infanticide if the mother wanted such.
Rev. Lankeit batted away claims that he was preaching politics from the pulpit. He pointed out that as a spiritual leader, he had an obligation to speak out against evil wherever and whenever he finds it. That such preaching was a moral issue not a political one.
Rev. Lankeit went onto destroy the idea that some good works, for example, opposing capital punishment or war, somehow make it okay for us to ignore abortion when we go to make a decision about whom to vote for.
Voting for a candidate who promotes abortion while that voter opposes capital punishment or war is an unparalleled level of hypocrisy.
Rev. Lankeit finished his homily with the following:
“We have a serious obligation to protect human life and especially the lives of the most innocent among us. Whoever fails to do this when otherwise able to do so, commits a serious sin of omission. They jeopardize their own spiritual wellbeing and are a source of scandal to others.”
Tom Perez, DNC chair, has drawn a line in the sand regarding being a Democrat. Back in April, 2017, he came out and announced that the party would no longer support any Democratic candidate who opposed abortion.
“Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health. That is not negotiable and should not change city by city or state by state.”
In other words, if you are pro-life, you cannot be considered to be a Democrat. One must be pro-death to be a Democrat. This statement by Perez stands to this day.
Joe Biden, a nominal Catholic, supports this position. This makes the choice for President even easier than it already is. No one should be voting for someone who supports stopping the beating heart of a baby boy or baby girl.
