The images coming out of NYC on Friday were simply incredible.

I lived in the NYC metro area for many years.  There have been many deaths of police officers in the NYPD over the years. There was always a good turnout of officers paying their last respects when an officer was killed in the line of duty.  In many cases, officers from neighboring communities in the NYC metro area would show up as well.  However, I have never seen a turnout like what took place on Friday.

Friday saw the funeral service of 22-year-old NYPD officer Jason Rivera at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  Rivera, who was posthumously promoted to detective during Friday’s service, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call in Harlem last week.

Outside St. Patrick’s on Friday, law enforcement officers braved the snow to stand together in Rivera’s honor, filling Fifth Avenue with a sea of blue that may be unmatched in the city’s history.

Rivera is just one of the most recent victims of the Democrats’ campaign against police officers.  The Democrats have portrayed law enforcement officers as trigger-happy sociopaths who patrol the streets looking for people to harass and kill, particularly minorities.  This has led to a substantial increase in violent deaths of officers in the line of duty during the last couple of years.

Rivera was a son, a brother and a husband.  He wanted to be an NYPD officer all his life.  As an officer, he was a friend to the City.  Rivera was taken from this earth buy the feckless policies and pronouncements of dangerously incompetent leaders.

Requiescat in pace, Jason Rivera.
