Are The Truckers Winning?…Updated

Yesterday I talked about a big rig blockade.  The border crossing between Couts, Alberta, Canada and Sweet Grass, Montana in the US has been closed for some time.  It was closed by truckers supporting the Freedom Convoy currently occupying Ottawa.  They formed a blockade and would not allow traffic to flow in either direction.

Alberta’s Premier Jason Kenney, a Conservative in name only (CINO), first disparaged and denigrated the truckers.  Then there was an uprising in the Conservative Party.  Erin O’Toole who was the leader of the Conservatives, was ousted from his position.  Why?  Because he refused to listen to the people.  O’Toole was content to powder his nose and pay homage to the elites who run the government in Canada.  He refused to acknowledge that the basic freedoms of Canadians were being eroded.

How did this affect Kenney?  Suddenly Premier Kenney has a change of heart and proclaims his allegiance to the Truckers, saying, “I’m on your side.”  This did not change the focus of the truckers one iota.  They engaged the Ministers of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly (MLA’s) in conversation.  The result was the MLA’s agreeing to hold a meeting and drop the COVID mandates.  The truckers agreed to open a lane in each direction at the border area.

The RCMP backed away from any enforcement action.  Of course, it would have been interesting to see what that would have consisted of.  The RCMP attempted to get the contracted support of a Western Canada towing company, Inter-Pacific Transporation, in the effort to break up the Alberta truck blockade.  The company refused.

The pols immediately scrambled to save face.  The national office of the Conservative Party said that no agreement had been “authorized” and that Premiere Kenney would be lifting COVID restrictions next week.

Sounds like a win for the truckers to me.  Now let’s see what happens in Ottawa.
