Mask mandates did not stop the spread of COVID, but they have started the spread of a backlash against public officials in California, and most of them are Democrats.  With the midterms approaching, what effect will this have on California elections?

Don Surber notes:

Nearly half of Americans oppose masking and a similar share is against vaccine mandates for schoolchildren, polls show. But what is obscured in those numbers is the intensity with which some parents have embraced these views. While they once described themselves as Republicans or Democrats, they now identify as independents who plan to vote based solely on vaccine policies.

A New York Times piece profiled some parents who attended a Defeat the Mandates rally in Orinda, which is in the Bay area.  Sheera Frankel seemed upset by the reactions of these parents.

“Their transformation injects an unpredictable element into November’s midterm elections. Fueled by a sense of righteousness after Covid vaccine and mask mandates ended, many of these parents have become increasingly dogmatic, convinced that unless they act, new mandates will be passed after the midterms.

These parents have every right to be concerned.  If left in power, the most likely course of action for Democrats is to continue injecting themselves into all aspects of a person’s life.  They will usurp the role of the parent in the raising of their children.

It is time for all parents to stand up and reject this.  Governor Ron DeSantis may be the guardian angel of this movement.  He stood up to Disney.  He banned sex education for kindergartners.  He most recently called out “gender-affirming care” for what it really is, castration of young boys and sterilization of young girls.

The ballot box may be a way for parents to make their views known.  Children matter.  The Democrats’ party platform is masks mandates when we say so, “gender-affirming care” for kids and rapes in the school restrooms.  Most Americans are horrified by this.
