On early Friday morning around 2:00 AM, police were sent to a residence in California to do a wellness check. This was a result of a 9-1-1 call where the operator intuited the need for such a visit. Stories about what took place abound. Some contain elements of real facts. Others are the product of fertile imaginations. Just what happened?
Let’s leave the names out of the equation for the moment. Doing so allows us to see better what the reality of the situation may be.
What are the known facts? The first fact is that a 9-1-1 call was received by SFPD and that the operator decided to alert patrol that a wellness check was probably needed at the residence in question. According to Chief Scott, the police officers arrived at the front door and the door was opened “by someone inside.”
The first question has to be who opened the door?
What did the police see when the door opened?
A 42-year-old man and an 82-year-old man were engaged in a struggle over a hammer. The officers ordered the men to drop the hammer. The 42-year-old wrestled the hammer away from the 82-year-old and begin hitting him with it. The police tackled the 42-year-old to stop the attack.
Some questions that emerge: Why would the police watch and not intervene? Were they not in a position to do so? Had the officers been called to this residence in the past? Were body cams on while this was happening?
It was stated that after the attack was stopped, both men were rendered medical aid. And, BTW the 42-year-old was in his underwear. There is no description available of what the 82-year-old was wearing.
It is understandable that the 82-year-old would need medical aid after being attacked with a hammer. Why did the 42-year-old need medical aid? What were his injuries? Why did he need to be hospitalized?
The 42-year-old has been charged with several felonies including elder abuse. Why elder abuse? Doesn’t this charge apply to an individual who has a relationship with the older person? Did the 82-year-old have a relationship with the 42-year-old?
What about the neighborhood where this took place? Was this some low-rent district where such activities abound?
Well just the opposite. It is a high-end neighborhood where all kinds of video surveillance exist.
What about the residence? Again, video surveillance, alarms, etc. are all over the place. The residence in question undoubtedly has motion sensors tied into a security company. The 42-year-old has been charged with burglary. If this was a burglary where the 42-year-old broke in by smashing the rear door, why was there no alarm?
So, with all of this security how did the 42-year-old break into the house unnoticed? Or was he invited in?
The police reported that the 42-year-old made it into the 82-year old’s bedroom. That leads to other questions that I will leave unasked.
Of course, most if not all of you know who I am talking about by this point. I will not grace this particular post with their names. By leaving out their names, we can think the unthinkable. Occam’s Razor certainly suggests what probably happened here. I will leave that to your fertile imaginations.
The FBI is on the job now. So, we will probably never get an official story that is true at this point.
