Recently Democrats once again displayed the fact that they are opposed to women’s rights. Democrats in the Virginia State Senate defeated legislation on Feb. 16 that would have barred transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.
Republicans in Virginia’s House had introduced a bill HB1387 in Nov. 2022. Fairness in Women’s Sports was intended to protect the right of girls and young women to fair competition. The bill would have prohibited athletes from participating on a team that does not match their biological sex as verified by a medical professional. The bill passed the Virginia House on February 7th.
Virginia Senate Democrats killed the bill on February 16th. Apparently, Virginia Democrats are another subset of humanity that cannot discern or define what a woman is. Since they cannot do this, they are unable to understand the physiological differences between a male and a female and how that translates into an unfair advantage in many sports for a male who is pretending to be a female. Or what is probably worse, a male who has a mental disorder that makes him think he is female.
Title IX legislation was crafted to give female athletes the same opportunity to participate in sports as males. Similarly gifted and trained male athletes will always have a physical advantage over females. This is why Title IX came into being. It has been hugely successful in granting females the same opportunities to participate and achieve success, to learn the lessons provided by such participation.
In Minnesota a judge decided to ignore Title IX and its success and ruled that gender identity is the same as sex when it comes to how “sex” should be understood in the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Of course, that is just complete and errant nonsense.
The case in question involves JayCee Cooper, a male, who enjoys powerlifting. USA Powerlifting ruled he would have to compete against other males despite his claim to be a woman. In 2019, he worked with Gender Justice, a hard-left Minnesota “rights organization,” to force USA Powerlifting to let him “compete” against women. After filing a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, he got the go-ahead to sue USA Powerlifting.
Last week, Cooper won his “discrimination” case against USA Powerlifting. With Cooper’s victory comes a mandate for the federation “to cease and desist from all unfair discriminatory practices” because of sexual orientation and gender identity.
This is complete and utter nonsense. However, the Democrats want it this way. Big Media is in bed with them, calling any bill which limits a male’s incursion into women’s sports an anti-trans bill. Of course, it was no such thing. This is just a continuing attack on women’s rights in this country.
Biological males who “come out” as female are not denied opportunities to compete in sports. They still have the same opportunity to participate in sports as the day they were born. They just have to do it competing against those of the same biological sex.
Pushback against allowing males into women’s sports is growing. Recently a girls’ basketball team in Vermont forfeited a state playoff game rather than play against a team that had a boy on its roster. Vicky Fogg, Head of School for Vermont Christian School, said:
“We withdrew from the tournament because we believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players. Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general.”
