Navy Cmdr. Angela Gonzales has been fired as commanding officer of the destroyer USS John Finn, the service announced this weekend.
Vice Adm. Karl Thomas, head of 7th Fleet, relieved Gonzales on May 19 “due to a loss of confidence in her ability to fulfill her responsibilities in leading the ship,” according to the Navy news release, which did not include any specific reasons that prompted Thomas to lose confidence in Gonzales.
This has been happening quite a bit. Most of the removals are due to incompetence to command. And a bunch of these have been female officers. Did they get there because they were female? Just asking for a friend.
Glenn Reynolds notes:
Sometimes I look at the destructive things done in the name of DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion — and I wonder: If a foreign power had infiltrated us and was trying to weaken and destroy our institutions, what would it do differently?
The answer is “Not much.”
And now a large group of retired senior military officers — generals and admirals all — is raising the alarm on the pernicious influence of “woke” ideology in military DEI programs.
In an open letter addressed to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Armed Services Committee and Defense Appropriations Subcommittee chairmen, they warn the pursuit of diversity, equity and inclusion, and political correctness generally, is getting in the way of the military’s actual mission: to fight and win wars and, by being able to do so, deter adversaries from starting anything.
I doubt this will have much impact. The Republicans will do nothing and the Democrats will accuse these people of being transphobic, racist, sexist and homophobic.
Our military has gone from being a meritocracy to being something unrecognizable where pronouns are more important than ability to serve.
Larry Johnson notes:
Is the CIA promoting people based on their skin color and/or sexual orientation? Do CIA managers face pressure when they write the yearly evaluation on their employees, which plays a key role in determining who gets promoted. If an employee is a minority or openly homosexual or transgender and does not get promoted, the manager is required to write an explanation why he or she did not promote said person.
Guess what happens? People get promoted because of their social justice status rather than the quality of their work. Is it any wonder that the quality of the CIA analytical product is succumbing to political pressure?
I personally know a couple of former CIA operatives. Outstanding people with great skill sets. I guess those days are behind us.
