The Democrats are trying to make the case that Republicans are extremists because the Republicans want our border secured. Do we have a country or not? Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) has penned an excellent article on just this issue.
Question for my Democrat friends: why is sending more money to Ukraine in our own national security interest, but securing our southern border isn’t?
Republicans are asking that question, and forcing the issue right now up in Congress. If we’re going to borrow more money adding to our $34 trillion in national debt and send that money to help Ukraine, justifying it as for our own national security, then certainly it’s not asking too much to deal with the utter chaos and rampant flow of millions of illegal migrants into our country. (Many from adversarial nations, thousands with criminal records, thousands who have already been deported at least once before, hundreds on the terrorist watch list, etc.)
Our Border Patrol is overwhelmed. Our border states are in crisis. We’re setting monthly records for apprehensions, and nobody can keep up with the invasion. Even deeply-Democrat run places like NYC, D.C., Massachusetts, and others are overwhelmed and are begging Biden to do something to address the chaos, yet he refuses. It’s so bad that even liberal media is starting to cover it more earnestly.
It’s all deliberate. As I’ve said before, Biden came into office and immediately stopped new border wall construction, tried to halt the removal of illegal immigrants with active deportation orders, tried to end Trump’s “remain in Mexico” asylum policy, and reinstated the policy to release detainees into the interior of the United States while awaiting their hearings. He’s done everything he can to facilitate and encourage illegal migration. Meanwhile, liberals in Congress have pursued multiple avenues seeking to grant amnesty to those who have entered our country illegally! It’s all by design.
So that brings us to the only leverage Republicans have. If Ukraine is a matter of national security, then surely my Democrat colleagues would agree that our open border is as well, right? Sadly, that’s not the case.
Knowing they had to include something for our border crisis in their Ukraine funding package, the Democrat-controlled Senate half-heartedly proposed a few billion to address the fallout from illegal immigration, but little to actually secure the border.
For example, they’re proposing $1.9 billion for things like “soft-sided facilities, consumables, medical care, transportation, overtime and temporary duty costs, and contract support.” $1.4 billion for shelters to “[relieve] overcrowding in short-term holding facilities.” $849 million for “non-intrusive inspection technology.” $921 million to “[respond] to migration surges along the southwest border.”
Do you see the problem here?!
Their answer to the border crisis is more money to deal with the influx, NOT actually preventing the massive surge of illegal migration to begin with. This is the crux of the matter!
Contrast that with H.R. 2, the Republican bill which passed the House of Representatives earlier this year but stalled in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Among other things, H.R. 2 would:
Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall.
End catch and release.
Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay.
Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
Strongly curtail what immigration laws the President could arbitrarily decide not to enforce.
Strengthen and streamline the asylum process so it’s no longer taken advantage of.
You see the difference? The Democrat approach encourages the surge to continue while providing a little more money to deal with the fallout. Meanwhile, the Republican approach takes actives steps to significantly reduce the flow of illegal migrants, which naturally helps everything else downstream.
I hear all of you. I know about the phone calls and letters of so many of you angry over Biden’s handling of the border. I agree, and will not be using my vote to support anything other than REAL border security and immigration reform. That’s what the overwhelming majority of Americans want, so it’s good to know we’re all on the same page here.
Thank you, Rep. Norman for standing up for everyday Americans.
