Freedom of speech is the latest right that is on the chopping block of the Communists Democrats running the country. Now the mantra is freedom of speech is okay if it does not offend anyone especially those in power.
Dr. Tom Woods has weighed in recently.
Remember when liberals (of all stripes) used to talk about free speech, and questioning authority, and all that?
Yeah, that was b.s.
By all means speak freely and question authority when these people aren’t in charge — but once they are, you’d better shut up and obey.
Because they really, really don’t like it when you speak your mind, and when the things you say fall outside the talking points that our lizard-people establishment keeps trying to ram into our brains.
Ever notice what happens when you object to characterizing J6 as an insurrection? Watch out. An FBI SWAT team may be knocking down your door whether or not you were in DC that day or not.
Most recent case in point is the creepy Francis Fukuyama, the political scientist you have no doubt heard of for his thoughts on the so-called “end of history.”
Well, Fukuyama sure doesn’t like free speech. Because people might say really bad things!
I happen to think the world’s political regimes, especially my own, say some pretty terrible things, and I think the things they say often foment irrational hatred and war, but you can bet your bottom dollar that that isn’t the kind of thing that worries the pretty little head of ol’ Francis Fukuyama.
Thanks to Mike Benz, executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, I just saw a clip of Fukuyama saying the following:
“The level playing field and the marketplace of ideas are kind of 18th-century notions that really have been belied by a lot of what’s happened in recent decades. But…the question then becomes, how do you actually regulate content that you think is noxious, harmful, and the like, and do it in a way that’s consistent with the First Amendment.
“Now, I think you can push the boundaries a bit, because the First Amendment does not allow you to say anything you want. But among liberal democracies…our First Amendment law is…among the most expansive of any developed democracy. And you could imagine a future world in which we kind of pull that back and we say no, we’re going to have…a law closer to that of Germany where…the government can designate something as hate speech and then…prevent the dissemination of that. Uh, but the question then is politically, how are you going to get there?”
So the people with a monopoly on the initiation of force should also have a monopoly on what’s allowed to be said and what isn’t. That’s Fukuyama’s brilliant idea. That’s American academia these days.
This is what passes for “rational” thinking in American academia. Is it any wonder that most of our “woke” campuses have wild-eyed student groups chanting “from the river to the sea” without understanding just what they are saying?
