The Harris campaign wants to chart a “New Way Forward.” Of course, there is little that is new in the Harris campaign or platform. Perhaps a “New Way Forward” should be the campaign theme of Republican Duke Buckner who is running against the anachronistic Jim Clyburn in House District 6 in South Carolina.
Clyburn has been the House representative from that district for over three decades. What has Clyburn done for his district during that time? It appears to be very little. Clyburn’s district ranks 431st in the country in terms of median income. One would think that Clyburn, who is referred to as a titan in Democratic national politics, would have been able to do more for his district.
Clyburn seems more interested in touring precincts in Midwest states than in working for his district. How talking to ballot counters in the Midwest helps his local constituents is lost on most people.
Buckner notes:
“He’s 84 years old, and he’s been in Congress for 32 years,” Buckner said of Clyburn. “When you look around the district and ask yourself ‘Has he done his job for this area?’ — the facts speak for themselves,” he added, pointing to the district’s persistent poverty.
Buchner’s bid to unseat Clyburn seeks to capitalize on national frustrations over things like inflation which is the highest in forty years and illegal immigration which is destroying the middle class. The district’s dire need for economic growth certainly helps Buchner’s campaign.
According to Clyburn, the people in his district are very satisfied with his performance in Washington. Clyburn says he has never heard anything other than to continue doing what he is doing. I wonder if Clyburn has spent too much time inside the bubble known as Washington DC.
There is previous evidence of this disconnect from reality. In June of 2020, Clyburn said there was no violence, rioting, looting, arson or attacks against police in Washington. The burned-out cars, buildings and churches, the videos of rampant looting, and the 150 police officers taken to the hospital were apparently staged and made up. According to his claims, none of what you saw actually happened.
Is it really possible that no one in District 6 has ever expressed negative feedback to Clyburn?
Clyburn is widely credited with being the man along with Barack Obama who helped deliver the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination to Joe Biden. How did that work out? Biden was a disaster from day one of his presidency. However, Clyburn is running on the fact that he helped get Biden into office.
Clyburn appears to support Barack Obama’s approach to the current election. Recently, Obama has taken to scolding black men who are lukewarm about supporting the Harris campaign. Both men appear to believe that they are masters of the plantation and can speak down to their constituents and tell them how to vote.
Buckner’s campaign is a common-sense approach. Buchner is opposed to the extremist positions of the Communist Democratic Party that Clyburn represents. Buchner is for common-sense policies like reducing inflation and closing the border to illegal aliens who are creating some much violence in this country.
Can Duke Buckner win? Yes, he can if the voters in the 6th district are willing to cast off the chains that Jim Clyburn has kept them in for so many years.
It is time for a change.
