This was the headline that was screamed across the ether the last few days. The dastardly Trump administration had deported a 2-year-old who was born in this country (so-called anchor baby) to an illegal alien. The media hollered that as a US citizen, she could not be deported. Is this what happened? Did the Trump administration deport a 2-year-old US citizen?
The short answer is No! A 2-year-old US citizen was not deported. These kinds of headlines are why fewer and fewer people trust the legacy media anymore. In this case, the headline is not some exaggeration of what happened. It is an outright lie.
Did a 2-year-old depart this country with her mother, an illegal alien, who was deported to Honduras? Yes, she did. This was done at the mother’s request which was made both verbally and in writing. The mother is the legal guardian of the child. There is no joint custody agreement involved.
Some media outlets downplay the mother’s consent, suggesting it was insufficient because it was only oral and handwritten. This is not only misleading, it is factually wrong. Under U.S. law, oral and written consent are both fully legitimate, especially in immigration and family law matters involving minor children. There is no requirement that consent be notarized, signed before a judge, or witnessed by a lawyer. In fact, ICE obtaining a handwritten statement alongside verbal consent is more careful than what is typically required.
In this specific case, the government provided free transportation for the child to be with her mother. How cruel would it have been to force a separation of this child from her mother? Yet, this is what the Democrats want so that they can then rail about the inhuman nature of the administration.
One would think that the most basic of research by a journalist would have quickly uncovered these facts. However, in today’s world, true journalists are hard to find. Those that claim the moniker are usually just propagandists on the payroll of some leftist organization.
These kinds of headlines are designed to generate outrage. The old saying that a lie travels around the world before truth can get out of bed is very true.
No children who are US citizens have been deported. Some US children have left with their parent(s) when such parents either left voluntarily or were deported. According to the American Immigration Council, 85% to 95% of deported parents choose to take their U.S. citizen children with them to keep the family together.
If someone claims that the administration is deporting US kids, ask them to produce the deportation order for the child in question. No such deportation orders exist.
This is just another big lie told by our legacy media.
