The Schumer Shutdown

The government shutdown continues.  People who are working are not getting paid (except Congress, of course).  The Democrats continue to lie to the American public further eroding their base.  The Democrats claim that the Republicans are to blame.  The only problem is that the opposition has offered a clean CR 13 times in the Senate already and the Democrats refuse to allow it to come to a vote.

Why?  Because they know that if there is a vote in the Senate the CR will pass.

The Democrats think that, because so far there has been little disruption to the daily lives of most Americans, there will be little blowback over their intransigence.  That is probably a miscalculation.  What this does is prove PDJT’s position that the government has way too many people.

However, that lack of impact is about to end.  Food stamps (Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program aka SNAP) is about to run out of money.  There are some 42 million people who receive such a benefit.  Now, one could argue about the number of people who should be receiving such taxpayer funded benefit.  But that’s a discussion for another time.

This will have a big impact.  Families who need this help will go hungry without others stepping in to help. Children may go to bed hungry.

The Democrats are panicking.  They are finding themselves on the wrong end of public announcements over and over.  You know things are bad for the Democrats when even the Teamsters Union is calling on them to end the government shutdown.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien demanded an end to the government shutdown Thursday in a passionate speech on its impact on the U.S. aviation industry and working families.

“We took a position three weeks ago.  Pass a clean CR, get to the table, negotiate a deal. Do not put working people in the middle of a problem. They should not be in there.”

“And we have got to think about the families that are going to be affected. Think about when you have to tell your son or daughter they can’t play sports because you’re not getting paid. Think about when you can’t pay your mortgage. Think about when you can’t pay your tuition.”…

“Put the politics aside, get to the table, negotiate a deal, pass a clean CR right now, and then figure out the problems moving forward.  Let’s not compromise the safety or the livelihoods of working people. Pass a clean CR.”

Then there is the Washington Post (WaPo).  In what has to be a remarkable position for their readers, WaPo argued for the Democrats to end the shutdown.   That puts the blame where it belongs.

Keeping the government open should be separated from policy disputes about how to spend taxpayer money. It is wrong that Democrats have held the government hostage for a month in hopes of extending costly Obamacare subsidies, just as it was for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to shut down the government in 2013 for 16 days in a bid to defund the Affordable Care Act altogether.

Will the Democrats hear what being said?  The Left believes that whatever they do is righteous and good.  If some people get hurt by their actions, that is just collateral damage.  The public are merely foot soldiers for their ascent to power and to the keeping of that power.

Some Democrats are finding themselves answering questions they never thought would be asked of them.  Most Democrats are used to fielding softball questions from left wing reporters.  Being called to account however softly, is a new experience for many of them.

On Thursday on C-SPAN, Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-Oregon) initially refused to answer Greta Brawner’s question and then, when pressed on her non-answer, accused Brawner of pinning blame for the shutdown on Democrats, who have repeatedly refused to vote to end it.

It seems that Bynum understands that the blame is coming to the Democrats for their continuing blockade of a vote on a clean CR.

In the past the Democrats’ repetitious lies, amplified by the media have had success in the court of public opinion.  The Republicans would cave in and the Democrats would proceed along their existential path.  This time things are really different.  the Republicans are standing their ground and getting their message out through alternate media sources. I think the Dems’ glory days of getting whatever they want are over and they know it but are having a hard time accepting the fact.

Perhaps the most panicked are those who are supposedly near the top of the pyramid.

For those who like to keep score.

This speaks louder than any Democrat who is shouting at an interviewer.
