DEI BS

Dr. Tom Woods has come out with an article on the whole DEI scene and it blows up the narrative about what DEI was all about.

Dr. Woods:

There’s an article in Compact magazine on DEI that everyone is talking about, and now J.D. Vance has urged people to read it — this thing was much, much worse and more sinister than you imagined.

It’s written by a left-liberal, which makes it all the more important.

There are still people out there who think DEI was a benign effort intended simply to open up opportunities to qualified job-seekers on an equal playing field.

It has instead been a systemic campaign to dispossess white men. We aren’t supposed to speak this way — it’s a “conspiracy theory” to use language like this — but that’s the only language appropriate to the situation.

There is little doubt that, prior to the beginning of the Light Bringer’s administration, America had indeed become a melting pot.  While there certainly still existed pockets of discrimination in the country, the fact was that race relations had never been better despite the at times heavy handed approach of the Federal government.

Then DEI surfaced and became a mantra of the Left.

Dr. Woods:

The author of the article, Jacob Savage, describes what started happening in his field and related fields just over ten years ago:

“The doors seemed to close everywhere and all at once. In 2011, the year I moved to Los Angeles, white men were 48 percent of lower-level TV writers; by 2024, they accounted for just 11.9 percent. The Atlantic’s editorial staff went from 53 percent male and 89 percent white in 2013 to 36 percent male and 66 percent white in 2024. White men fell from 39 percent of tenure-track positions in the humanities at Harvard in 2014 to 18 percent in 2023.”

In 2018 the New York Times established a year-long fellowship. Of the nearly 220 fellows since that time, a grand total of ten have been white men.

Statistics like this go on, and on, and on, all throughout the article, which deals with a particular cohort of white men who had to abandon their chosen career paths, because vastly (not slightly — vastly) less qualified minority candidates were being hired instead.

Savage goes on to detail the work histories of many white males who were frozen out of their chosen fields by individuals who checked a box (mostly females).  Particularly in academia there were two completely different hiring schemes.

This has led to what we have seen in academia over the last few years where the very top of these institutions are inhabited by people who have no business being there.  However, the board of directors of these institutions (think the Ivies as one particular area) believe they checked the right box when these incompetent people were hired.  Their performances when testifying in front of Congress on the issue of antisemitism displayed the idiocy of those hires.

Western civilization has been great and glorious.  It has largely been built by white men.  Yet to make such a statement in this day and age would draw all kinds of condemnation from people who would disparage the contributions of such men.  Our own country is a great example of this.  Jefferson, a truly outstanding individual in the early days of the country is defiled as a slave owner.

Meritocracy is the foundation under which the greatness of our country has happened.  Mediocracy had no place there.

DEI is just unadulterated bullshit.  And it is time someone said so.

Thank you, Dr. Woods.
