FAFO

      Comments Off on FAFO

FAFO has become an acronym to draw attention to the consequences of behavior that warrant some attention that is unfavorable to the good nature of most people.  The more sanitized version of this is “Fool Around Find Out.”  I leave it to reader’s imagination what the other possibilities are.

There have been many examples of FAFO during the last year.  Perhaps the most recent and glaring example is Maduro of Venezuela.  Maduro believed there would be no consequences  for trafficking narcotics and people.  Maduro found out that this belief was in error.

There are a few companies that have found this out the hard way.  Remember Bid Light?  They were the #1 beer in America.  The company reached out to trannies and wound up losing nearly a third of its sales. Modelo Especial replaced it as the No. 1 beer in America for a short while. But, without or with the assistance of ICE, Michelob Light now is the No. 1 beer.

After this a whole bunch of companies dumped DEI policies.  They learned the lesson from Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light fiasco.  That being, do not mess with conservatives.

As Don Surber notes:

Conservatives don’t carry signs. They don’t organize boycotts. They are too busy to picket. They just make life hard for companies that go woke on them.

And that brings us to Hilton Hotels.  For those who may not have seen this story, a Hampton Inn (Hilton chain) in Lakeville, Minnesota, recently banned DHS people from their property.  From ICE:

NO ROOM AT THE INN!

Hilton Hotels has launched a coordinated campaign in Minneapolis to REFUSE service to DHS law enforcement.

When officers attempted to book rooms using official government emails and rates, Hilton Hotels maliciously CANCELLED their reservations.

This is UNACCEPTABLE. Why is Hilton Hotels siding with murderers and rapists to deliberately undermine and impede DHS law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws?

The Minnesota Star Tribune is the major Big Media outlet in Minnesota.  They buried the story.  Perhaps they were too busy dealing with Nick Shirley’s scoop on the massive fraud committed by Somalis in various and sundry welfare scams.  After all, taking down a sitting governor is no small potatoes.

The Hilton Hotels are run by franchisees.  A spokeswoman for Hilton told the Wall Street Journal:

“We have been in direct contact with the hotel, and they have apologized for the actions of their team, which was not in keeping with their policies. Hilton’s position is clear: Our properties are open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination.”

When the story came to light, the franchise owner said:

“We are in touch with the impacted guests to ensure they are accommodated. We do not discriminate against any individuals or agencies and apologize to those impacted. We are committed to welcoming all guests and operating in accordance with brand standards, applicable laws, and our role as a professional hospitality provider.”

The real question is did anything really change?  These people seem to think that guys like Nick Shirley are one of a kind and they had nothing to fear if they continued their duplicitous ways.  Another Nick, Nick Sortor went to the Hampton in question.  And guess what?  The franchise owner lied.

Their operator, Everpeak Hospitality, STRAIGHT UP LIED in yesterday’s statement claiming they were:

  • “In touch with DHS to accommodate impacted agents”
  • “A welcoming place for all”
  • “Not discriminating against any individuals or agencies”

NONE of that was true.

Per Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaugh, NO ONE from Everpeak or Hilton ever reached out to make this right.

Even worse, the front desk manager confirmed he had spoken with ownership shortly before Nick arrived at ~10:50 PM, and that the ANTI-DHS POLICY WAS STILL IN EFFECT.

Below is the full interaction.

INSIDE THE HOTEL — RECORDED DIALOGUE

Nick Sortor: Hey.

Front Desk Manager: Hello, how are you?

Nick Sortor: Good, how are you doing?

Front Desk Manager: Good.

Nick Sortor: Do you have any rooms for tonight?

Front Desk Manager: We should, yeah.

Nick Sortor: Okay. Like how many could we get? Maybe ten?

Front Desk Manager: Ten?

Nick Sortor: Yeah, I know.

Front Desk Manager: Let me see. Did you already make reservations by any chance?

Nick Sortor: No.

Front Desk Manager: What’s the name?

Nick Sortor: It’d just be Nick. I’d put it under my personal. I don’t know if you can use a government rate or not.

Front Desk Manager: It depends. What agency would it be for?

Nick Sortor: Department of Homeland Security.

Front Desk Manager: So, we’re not accepting Immigration, ICE agents, or DHS into our property. That’s management—ownership.

Nick Sortor: Okay, I thought that changed today.

Front Desk Manager: I just talked to the owner of the building, and he didn’t say there have been any changes.

Nick Sortor: Really?

Front Desk Manager: Yeah. It’s just policy.

Nick Sortor: DHS isn’t all Immigration.

Front Desk Manager: Yeah.

Nick Sortor: They put out a statement today saying they accept everybody.

Front Desk Manager: I haven’t been informed. I could call the owner right now if you want.

Nick Sortor: That’d probably be good. It’s like 10, 11 o’clock now.

Front Desk Manager: Yeah, I get you. I’ll be right back.

— time passes —

Front Desk Manager: Nobody’s answering my call right now, just because of the time.

Nick Sortor: Okay, got it. Everpeak Hospitality said they “moved swiftly,” contacted guests, and didn’t discriminate. I thought we were good to go.

Front Desk Manager: Yeah, but…

Nick Sortor: DHS also does fraud investigations.

Front Desk Manager: Yeah, but…

Nick Sortor: Okay.

Front Desk Manager: Sorry about that.

Nick Sortor: Not your fault.

OUTSIDE THE HOTEL — STATEMENT (NICK SORTOR)

“They lied.

Hilton lied.

Hampton Inn lied.

Everpeak Hospitality lied.

They said the policy changed.

It didn’t.

They said they contacted DHS.

They didn’t.

They said they don’t discriminate.

They are.

This is why corporate statements mean nothing without action.

People said, ‘They learned their lesson.’

No—they just hoped you’d stop paying attention.

Now comes the find-out phase.

REVOKE THEIR LICENSE, HILTON.

Or this will cost you dearly.

You picked an incredibly dumb battle—against federal law enforcement, against the right, and against your own customers.

Congratulations. You just earned the full Bud Light treatment.

You were warned.”

Hilton’s CEO, Chris Nassetta, was not pleased.  He fired the franchisee.

Do you think that Nassetta has saved Hilton?  The stock market certainly thinks so. The stock price is back to where it was.  Also a clear message has been sent to others who might have been thinking about acting like the shysters in Lakeville.  The days of spitting in the face of good people is over.
