Negotiations to end the war have been ongoing since the beginning of the second Trump administration. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner have been leading the talks with Moscow and Kyiv. These men have worked tirelessly to expand the potentials for peace around the world. They have the full backing of the President. The Gaza Peace deal is just one example of their efforts.
Negotiations in the Ukraine-Russia conflict have many headwinds working against peace. The EU needs the war. European economies are threatening to collapse. This is primarily due to the heavy hand of regulation and the EU’s pressure to go green. Without the war, it is difficult to see how the EU’s economies would be competitive.
Stopping access to cheap energy (think fossil fuels) in favor of expensive green energy has placed the EU at a significant disadvantage in the world markets. The sabotaging of the Nord Stream pipelines destroyed a source of cheap energy that would have helped those industries to stay competitive. Ukraine did that to prevent Germany from growing closer to Russia.
Would the people in Russia and Ukraine be happy if the war ended? Absolutely! There have been a number of developments recently that might indicate some shifting of the possibilities for that to happen.
On September 8th, President Donald Trump and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin held a one-hour phone call, discussing the latest round of negotiations. It is interesting to see how the Russians viewed this call.
[PRESS RELEASE] – Aide to the President Yury Ushakov: President Vladimir Putin had another telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. In their customary respectful and business-like manner, the leaders exchanged opinions on the trips made by US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev on September 5–6.
The telephone conversation lasted exactly one hour. It was constructive and quite frank. As you understand, the conversation itself is confidential, so I am not at liberty to share with you many important details and nuances.
The outcome of the visit by said US representatives was assessed as positive. The work through this channel and some others will continue.
Clearly, the conversation centered on Ukrainian settlement. Donald Trump directly communicated the desirability of bringing the conflict to an end as soon as possible, as it would immediately open up prospects – impressive and far-reaching ones at that – for the full restoration of relations between the U.S. and Russia. In his view, this would have a particular impact on trade and economic ties, promising huge benefits for both nations. Donald Trump is keen to see a breakthrough achieved during his presidency.
President Putin supported this approach in the context of potentially building a constructive partnership between the two great powers and praised the mediation efforts by the US and Donald Trump personally with respect to finding solutions to the Ukrainian conflict. An objective and extensive analysis of the current developments in the special military operation was provided, along with our vision of the overall progress on the battlefield and achieving the goals and objectives of the special military operation. Speaking of which, actual tangible actions that the Americans could take to expedite the cessation of the hostilities were outlined.
In view of the speculations regarding Russia’s alleged hostile intentions against European states, it was stressed that no aggressive plans against Europe have ever entered our minds. The circulated myths about the Russian threat serve as a pretext for Europeans to ramp up their support for Ukraine and their own military expenses.
Notably, during the telephone conversation, the leaders agreed to continue the work on resolving humanitarian issues, including detainee and prisoner exchanges. Our President noted the efforts made by US First Lady Melania regarding the return of both Russian and Ukrainian children to their families.
Overall, colleagues, I will reiterate that the conversation proceeded in an upbeat tone. The presidents agreed to stay in touch and speak to each other by phone if the need arose.

An interesting piece of information is contained this press release. “…actual tangible actions that the Americans could take to expedite the cessation of the hostilities were outlined.”
Russians speak when there is value in the conversation. Russians do not do small talk; that’s a western attribute. So, what is being pointed to here?
One of the problems with negotiations is that Putin and the Russians do not believe that any US President has control over the CIA. In fact, I would believe that the Russians believe that the Intelligence Community (IC) is a group that makes its own decisions about foreign policy.
Toward the end of August, CIA Director John Ratcliffe made an “unscheduled” visit to Moscow. Now there is no such thing as an “unscheduled” visit like this. Ratcliffe is supposed to have met with his Russian counterparts. The usual media hacks describe the visit as a big nothingburger since Ratcliffe did not actually meet with Putin.
However, Putin did cancel a big event with many people that was supposed to take place after Ratcliffe’s visit. Just what was so important for John Ratcliffe to fly to Moscow for a few hours to deliver intelligence? Was some major escalation avoided?
Now let’s pair this with the announcement this week that Ratcliffe would be more involved in the Ukraine-Russia negotiations. Is this one of the “actions that Americans could take?”
It seems that this action and others have scared the Europeans witless.
On Wednesday you might have seen explosive headlines around the world proclaiming the airplane carrying Volodymyr Zelenskyy from Moldova was hit or almost hit by a drone strike. It never happened. It was entirely fake news.
The reality is the drone in question was detected inside Ukraine over 160km from where Zelenskyy was in Chisinau International Airport. Zelenskyy and/or Moldova itself was never under any threat. Is this another attempt by Zelenskyy to paint himself as some selfless patriot who puts his own life in danger regularly for his people?
Then came Thursday’s announcement. Zelenskyy flew to Alberta, Canada to coordinate with the latest European leader Mark Carney. Yes, I said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Carney cares not for Canada or the Canadian people.
Carney really does view himself as European first and foremost. He even says that Canada in general, and he as the Prime Minister specifically, will ensure that Ukraine advances to become a European member state. How, exactly, does he, as a North American leader, expect to make this happen?
Worse still, Prime Minister Carney injects himself into the Ukraine-Russia negotiations by stating his intention to ensure that Ukraine becomes a member of NATO. Ukraine not becoming a NATO member state is a hardline for Russia. This has been true from day one of this conflict.
Carney is putting his nation and himself into direct conflict with President Trump and the goals/objectives of peace. Carney wants the war to continue. Do the Canadian people understand how dangerous this is becoming? This will not end well.
The globalists are very concerned that Trump may actually achieve peace and that would be a big wrench in their attempts at global domination. They need the war to continue.
The benefits of the war ending and the warming of relations between Russia and America are incalculable. Let us hope that PDJT and his team can be successful.
