Is San Antonio anti-Christian?

In another move demonstrating the anti-Christian bias that pervades the progressive left, the San Antonio City Council voted to ban Chick-fil-A from the San Antonio International Airport.

City Councilman Roberto Treviño entered a motion on March 19 to approve the city’s Food, Beverage and Retail Prime Concession Agreement but added a clause to ban the nation’s favorite fast food company from the list of vendors eligible to operate at the San Antonio International Airport.

“With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion,” Treviño said. “San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior”

So just what was this anti-LGBTQ behavior that Treviño was referring to? Does Chick-fil-A ask customers if they are gay?  Does Chick-fil-A refuse to serve customers who appear to be lesbian?  Are transgender people prohibited from receiving service at their restaurants?  None of this is true.

Chick-fil-A is open and accommodating to all who wish to partake of their fares.  A spokesperson noted,

“The 140,000 people who serve customers in our restaurants on a daily basis represent and embrace all people, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity.  Our intent is to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”

What really happened is that Think Progress, an extreme leftist media outlet, had highlighted the fact that Chick-fil-A had donated money to several Christian groups.  Apparently this is not acceptable to the San Antonio City Council.  Senator Ted Cruz was incredulous.

So, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army are off limits for corporate donations.  This also ignores the fact that Chick-fil-A stayed open on Sunday after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando and donated money.  This is a fake narrative put forward by Treviño.  It is meant to denigrate and disparage people who are Christians.

This is a clear case of religious persecution.  The real statement here is “the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of inequality and exclusion when it comes to Christians.”  The City is attempting to exclude Christians from being welcome in San Antonio.  It is in line with the left‘s campaign to diminish the rights of all Christians in this country. This is just another example of the Democratic Party attempting to shape religious practice to conform to its own values and priorities.  Banishing religion to inside churches on Sunday would make it easier to convince the people that their rights are not inalienable, that these rights do not exist outside of government decrees.

In a very real sense San Antonio is emulating Communist China who is trying to eliminate people’s religious beliefs.  What will the next step be?  Will Treviño propose that certain groups (e.g., military personnel, government officials, students) be prohibited from participating in religious practices?  That would be in line with Chinese government practice.

The people of San Antonio should vote the 6 members who supported this ridiculous motion out of office.  San Antonio is part of the United States of America.  We are not yet a police state.
