Panmunjom

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

I was watching history being made overnight on Saturday into Sunday. So did millions of other people around the world. We all stayed up to watch the first sitting U.S. president cross into North Korea (3:45 AM ET).  PDJT and North Korea’s Chairman Kim Jong-un took another step towards peace.  And South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in was grinning from ear-to-ear.

After PDJT’s venture into North Korea, PDJT and Kim held a bilateral meeting which lasted some 45 minutes.

Aside from the relationship between China and North Korea that PDJT has revealed for the world to see, just what does PDJT hope to accomplish here? PDJT wants the 70 years of war and hostility between America and North Korea to end.   Reaching a permanent peace treaty to officially end the Korean War is a high priority for South Korea and North Korea.

PDJT wants to get rid of North Korea’s nukes.   At this point the nukes are still there but there have been clear signs that negotiations are underway again.  China has taken responsibility for any hostile action coming out of North Korea.  South Korean President Moon said the Trump-Kim meeting was the overcoming of a hurdle. Moon called it good news for the 80-million people on the Korean peninsula seeking an end to nuclear weapons.

Finally PDJT wants to transform U.S. relations with North Korea. And it certainly appears that is where PDJT made the biggest gain Sunday.   The story here is what  PDJT tweeted, “Peace is the Prize.”  Is it going to happen tomorrow?  No!  This is another step that is part of a long journey.  Trust is not built overnight.

However, it is good to see leaders meeting gracefully to transform the relations between their respective countries from hostile to peaceful. This is the kind of leadership the world needs.  This is what the process of making peace looks like. An incredible and truly historic moment in time.  President Trump is showing the world how it should be done.  If one does not talk, how does one get to the prize?

Are we seeing the softening of Kim’s heart?  After their meeting Kim was talking and smiling. PDJT and Kim appear to be very comfortable with each other. Did they meet without interpreters? There are indications that was the case, but there has been no formal announcement of that.  I wonder if PDJT handed Kim another letter or two?

There are no words to describe the incredible brilliance of PDJT.  His ability to see a problem and to find a way to overcome a problem is amazing.  When he had the second meeting with Kim in Hanoi, a communist country, he showed Kim what was possible for Kim’s country.  Now he reaches out and renews the conversation.  When people talk, bullets do not fly.  The world is a better and safer place with our President Trump in charge.
