Senator Rand Paul has come out against the notion that IG Horowitz’s report on the FISA abuses exonerates James Comey, FBI Director when the abuses took place.
Comey gloated because the IG report did not claim the FBI was criminally liable for their investigation into President Donald Trump for his suspected Russian collusion. This ignores the fact that criminal referrals have been made and that John Durham has a criminal investigation underway into the subject matter of the report.
Comey’s tweet on the subject is instructive.
So it was all lies. No treason. No spying on the campaign. No tapping Trumps wires. It was just good people trying to protect America. https://t.co/9nurCaIBq2

Comey’s entire tweet is false. Most people around the world now know that the Trump campaign was spied on. Most people know that the NSA data feeds were compromised for political purposes. The IG’s report is full of evidence of bias on the part of those in the FBI who were part of this plot. This was not “good people trying to protect America.” It was bad people trying to interfere with and then overturn a presidential election.
It is interesting that the 1st thing Comey mentions is treason. It must be foremost in his mind that possible charges for treason may be in his future.
This entire tweet scares the hell out of me. The FISA court was defrauded. However, with John Durham still working, I would advise Mr. Comey that “it ain’t over til the fat lady sings!”
Paul places the blame for the “sloppiness” of the FBI at the feet of Comey, who he calls one of the worst federal bureaucrats in history.
Paul noted,
“James Comey will go down in history, one, as being a sanctimonious partisan, but two, as being the guy who really did more to damage to the FBI than anybody else in the history of the FBI including Hoover.
“People often talk about the Russians being involved in our election, I’m equally alarmed by having the intelligence community interfering in our elections — and deciding winners and losers.”
Paul went on to say,
“I think really what we need to have is a better system where if you want to investigate someone, you have to go to a real court in public and ask for a warrant.
What we’ve been using are secret warrants. These are FISA warrants, and basically the judges simply rubberstamp them, and I think the idea that our intelligence community would be investigating any campaign – Republican or Democrat – is repugnant and a danger to freedom of speech and a danger to free elections.
One of the reforms I have is that the FISA database, that no one should be allowed to look into it for an American’s information without getting a warrant from a judge in a real court… I think the President could actually do this by executive order.”
Sen. Paul is doing all Americans proud in his efforts to push back against the deep state and to ensure lasting reforms that protect the liberty of all the people.
