Multiple media sources have announced that dexamethasone (DMS), a steroid, significantly reduces the risk of death in patients with severe respiratory complications. This is based on a study done in the UK. Results are expected to be published shortly. DMS is cheap, on the shelf and could be used to help patients worldwide now.
The drug is already used to reduce inflammation in a range of other conditions, the BBC reported. It appears to help stop some of the damage that can happen when the body’s immune system goes into overdrive as it fights off the coronavirus.
Presuming that the study results stand up to scrutiny, there are now two treatment protocols that are proven to be successful against the virus, DMS for severely ill patients and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) when used early in the treatment process.
Since DMS is cheap and off patent protection, I wonder if Dr. Fauci and the FDA will deny the use of DMS here in this country as they have with HCQ.
