That was the question before the Senate on Wednesday. Majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had vowed to put every US Senator on record. The House passed an absolutely evil bill to allow the killing of babies right up to the moment of birth. On Wednesday it was the Senate’s turn.
In the Senate there are rules about ending debate on any measure. It’s called cloture. In this case at least 60 Senators must agree to end debate. In a bipartisan vote the Senate voted 49-51 against ending debate. 50 Republicans said ‘No’ along with one Democrat, Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
The Democrats don’t have enough votes to codify abortion. This is why legalizing abortion was pushed through the courts in 1973. There never were enough votes to push the killing of unborn children through the legislative branch of our government.
In the leftist media much has been written about “ending a constitutional right,” that women are being “robbed” by the Supreme Court. That is a big lie that is being repeated by many Marxist politicians like Chuck Schumer. Factually that is not even close to the truth.
Let me draw an analogy to illustrate this. In baseball Aaron Judge of the NY Yankees hits a screaming line drive toward the left field foul pole. The ball passes into the stands close to the foul pole. The umpire signals a home run. Aaron Judge trots around the bases and heads back into the dugout. The opposing manager claims that the ball passed in front of the foul pole and crossed into the stands in foul territory.
A video replay review is done and, lo and behold, the video shows that ball did indeed pass into the stands to the left of the foul pole in foul territory. The umpires correct their mistake and send Judge back to the plate to complete his turn at bat.
Was Aaron Judge robbed of a home run? No. He was mistakenly awarded one when the umpire thought the ball passed into the stands in fair territory. This mistake was corrected when a careful review of the situation revealed the truth.
The Supreme Court are the ultimate umpires of what laws are allowed and what are not. In 1973 the Court made a mistake in Roe v Wade. The Court actually manufactured a right out of thin air. This is like seeing the ball go into the stands on the fair side of the foul pole.
They compounded this mistake in 1992 in Casey v Planned Parenthood. Those mistakes are now being corrected after careful review.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, that famously liberal justice, who was no shrinking violet when it bcame to women’s rights, thought the Roe decision to be “bad law” and “quite flawed” and that she was pretty sure it might be “overturned by SCOTUS” one day. Again this is not something that one will hear from the left wing media who will screech and caterwaul over “women’s rights being robbed.”
This move was just a particularly devious move by Senator Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Schumer believes that this issue, that is, allowing the killing of unborn children, is a winner. Democrats think codifying the MURDER of babies is going to help them in November. I believe, given a choice, most Americans would choose life over death!
And that is the issue. Life or death. Even Whoopi Goldberg of The View slipped up when she stated that “the decision is between me, my doctor and my child.” How the child gets a vote in this is not made clear by The View co-host. However, the point is that there are TWO BODIES involved in the act of abortion. Doesn’t the unborn child have a right to life?
I think that every Democratic Senator (except Joe Manchin) who is running for re-election this year should see billboards in his/her state that show the ultrasound of an unborn child along with the vote that Senator made to end that life. It is time to take off the kid gloves and let everyone know just how evil these people are.
While I agree with everything you said, the government does not own or have sovereignty over citizens bodies. Period! What people do with their bodies are their choice. This subject has had me perplexed for years. How do you have sovereignty over your body and still keep those unborn precious babies alive?
