Oberlin College Capitulates

Oberlin College has finally thrown in the towel.  After years of legal wrangling, the college has announced that it is beginning the process of paying in full ($36.59 million) the judgment against it for libeling Gibson’s Bakery and promoting a boycott.

The announcement:

What is missing from the above statement?  How about an apology for all of the pain and suffering that they caused?

The woke control almost all of the cultural powers in America. They use this power to ruthlessly push their agenda and woke ideology on the commoners. This agenda rests on the idea that America is bad to the core.  In this case, the Gibsons, because they were white and were typical hard-working Americans, were racist because of the color of their skin.

The college used their economic position in the community to try to coerce the Gibsons into accepting their woke ideology.  When the Gibsons wouldn’t, when the Gibsons stood up for what was right and just, that stealing from the store was wrong, what followed, which had the blessings of at least one college administrator, was determined to be libelous.

This statement by Oberlin College is a typical “woke” statement.  The “woke” see themselves as morally superior to most people. The college stated that they “are disappointed by the court’s decision.”  This demonstrates that they believe engaging in activities like defamation that are demonstrably illegal and morally reprehensible, are okay if such activities advance the “woke” agenda.

The agenda in this case was to absolve students from the consequences of their actions simply because they were black and enrolled at Oberlin.  The college’s tactic was to viciously attack the Gibsons in the community as well as in court as racist and to attempt to smear them at every turn.

Will there be a financial hit to the college?  Yes, although much of the award will be paid by their insurance. And the college’s endowment is in the neighborhood of $1 billion so there will not be any major interruption in the college’s financial stability.  Based on their statement, it appears that this incident is “just the cost of doing business.”  Oberlin appears not to understand that what they did was wrong period.

Gibson’s Bakery was in danger of going under from the damage done to their reputation by the repugnant activities of the college.  This award will allow them to continue in business if they so wish.  They have been a fixture in Oberlin for more than 130 years.

What effect will this have on Oberlin College?  In a sane world, one would suppose that some parents who would re-consider sending their children there.  Oberlin may have used the words “outstanding undergraduate education” in their press release.  However, reality indicates otherwise.

Anyone wishing to review the entire case can find a multitude of articles on this case at Legal Insurrection.  They were the only national outlet to have a reporter at the trial every day.
