Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) abruptly froze at a press conference Wednesday before he was ushered away from the podium—raising questions about the 81-year-old lawmaker’s health months after he recovered from a concussion and broken rib from a fall at a Washington hotel. McConnell later returned to the podium and said he was fine.
McConnell is looking worse than ever. McConnell has not looked good since he fell earlier this year and missed six weeks in Washington. He was completely gone for a minute there.
Irrespective of political leaning or beliefs, this is a man who isn’t physically capable of properly executing a leadership role, or exerting such influence over the lives of, at very least, a few hundred million people. Keep in mind that he is the longest serving floor leader in US Senate history. McConnell’s sell by date is long past.
This incident has all the trappings of a TIA event (transient ischemic attack). MY mother-in-law experienced one such event some years ago. Just as was seen with McConnell, she was non-communicative for a short period of time. She was able to walk and could follow the lead of those around her just as McConnell did.
Some people would refer to this as a mini-stroke. Using the term mini-stroke tends to lessen the concern about its effects. Health professionals will tell you there is no such thing as a “mini-stroke.” All such events are serious events.
McConnell has had multiple opportunities to gracefully exit the Senate. Why hasn’t he done so? Why does he still cling bitterly to his power in his waning years? McConnell is just another Nancy Pelosi who won’t step away. McConnell is a representative for power, greed and fear, not for America.
Is the problem that if he steps away, someone might detect and expose corruption? Just asking for a friend.
This incident shows that the leadership of the Republican party in the Senate is in trouble. Why haven’t they replaced McConnell? Are they afraid of an uprising within the ranks of Republican Senators? Are they afraid of a battle for leadership like what took place in the House with Kevin McCarthy?
