Sometimes it’s hard for the average voter to tell just how effective an elected official is in advancing the interests of his constituency. Darline Graham-Nordone tried to minimize Norman at the recent debate. However, when some of Washington’s most aggressive subsidy seekers make him a top political target, you know he must be doing something right.
The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC, a left-wing super PAC, backed by solar executives and investors, will plow at least $1 million into trying to defeat Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) in the South Carolina GOP Senate runoff. Let’s be reminded this is for the compressed two-week sprint for the special primary for the seat once held by Graham-Nordone’s brother Lindsey Graham.
The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC is a green energy PAC bankrolled by a leftist billionaire which attempts to throw Republican primaries into disarray. For the renewable energy world, taking down Norman is personal. The House Freedom Caucus member helped lead the charge to kill Biden-era wind and solar tax credits in Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act — and to get President Donald Trump to end them even more quickly than the legislation did.
This is where the ads come from that say that Norman opposed the BBB Act. Norman did not oppose it. Norman had a problem with corporate welfare and let the President know. PDJT agreed with him and had the subsidies removed. This is called legislating something which Graham-Nordone has no experience with.
The green energy people look at this as treason. “Norman’s somewhat even traitorous to the clean energy industry and solar industry,” said Tom Matzzie, chair of the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition and a solar CEO. “It’s about stopping Norman, but it’s also about sending a message to other members of Congress that if they try to hurt the industry, we’re going to fight back.”
So, according to these people, it is treasonous to conclude that the solar industry should not be feeding at the public trough. Of course, the ads the group is running make no mention of solar tax credits. They are trying to separate Norman from the MAGA base by calling him a traitor. Based on the people I have spoken with, it is not working.
I would say great job to Ralph Norman for putting the taxpayers first.
