In an interview with The Guardian last Thursday Hillary Clinton came out against the unrestricted flow of migrants into Europe. This has shaken Democratic politicians to the core. Democrats have been unrestrained in their support of an “open borders” policy in America as well as in their criticism of PDJT’s policies on our southern border with Mexico.
Hillary Clinton said that immigration reform, “not open borders,” is needed “on both sides of the Atlantic.” “I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame.” Is this a trial balloon to see if she can garner support for another run at the Presidency? She knows that the issue resonates with significant portions of the American electorate.
Between 2015 and 2016, more than one million migrants and refugees came into the European Union. The massive influx of these migrants has strained Europe’s welfare system, increased violent crime, and seriously degraded the culture and life-styles of the countries in which these migrants reside. Of course, the flame she is referring to is not riots and other forms of violence perpetrated by the new arrivals. Rather it is the victories scored by conservative, populist candidates on both sides of the Atlantic the last few years.
Has Hillary had an epiphany? “Maybe Hillary has understood the lesson,” Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party, told The New York Times. “If you don’t control migration it will affect mostly poor people, people living on the outskirts, the working classes.”
This is exactly the point that PDJT has been making. Unrestricted flows of migrants depress the wages of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck. This also leads to greater crime when criminals are allowed unrestricted access to this country.
Clinton’s apparent epiphany was short-lived. She reverted to form and immediately went off the rails in her criticism of PDJT. She even managed to include a reference to Russia in her remarks. Apparently she is still spending considerable time in the woods communing with the spirits.
“There are solutions to migration that do not require clamping down on the press, on your political opponents and trying to suborn the judiciary, or seeking financial and political help from Russia to support your political parties and movements.”
Clinton was joined in her remarks by former Secretary of State John Kerry.
It will be interesting to see how leading Democratic politicians in this country react. What kind of a tap dance will they use to explain these remarks by their erstwhile leaders? Of course, no matter what, they will find some way to bash the Trump administration despite the fact that everything PDJT has said about the potential invading army on our southern border has been true.
