The absolute insanity of the Covington Catholic High School debacle continues. For those with short memories, the media out and out lied about the Lincoln Memorial incident. A Catholic high school group, who were waiting for their bus after attending the annual March for Life, was the targets of two groups of leftist racists. These racists insulted them with all kinds of despicable slurs. This went on for over an hour. The kids responded with good-natured school-spirit chants, attempting to drown out the belligerent taunts. They didn’t respond with insults or any physical aggression of their own. They would have made Martin Luther King, Jr. proud by how they conducted themselves. When the busses arrived, they departed. We know what the media reported.
They jumped at the opportunity to demonize these teenagers who had done absolutely nothing wrong. A teen boy’s character has been ripped to shreds in the court of public opinion, at the encouragement of the MSM, for standing silently and smiling.
CNN led the way. The teens were called racists, Nazis, white nationalists and worse. Death threats followed. Celebrities were publicly calling for the teens to killed. One suggested a woodchipper. Another that the school should be burned down with the kids inside.
The bishop of the Diocese of Covington heaped gasoline on the fire when he issued the following statement:
So, without a scintilla of evidence Bishop Foys threw these students under the proverbial bus. Not only were their actions not reprehensible, their actions were exemplary in the face of enormous provocation. Nick Sandmann, the sophomore at the center of the media firestorm, certainly exemplified the best of the Church’s teachings on dignity and respect for human beings. He has issued a statement of facts that can be seen here.
These young people were exemplary witnesses for the March for Life. They in no way tainted that effort. No apology was needed nor should any have been given. If anything, as the truth has come out, these young people have borne witness to how powerful the Church’s teachings on respect for all people can be even if the leaders of their particular institutions are cowards.
So why was Nick singled out? It is pretty clear that older man was looking for a scene that would play well on the nightly news. That and Trump Derangement Syndrome. There were a number of teens who were wearing MAGA hats, both white and red. The fact that Nick was wearing a red MAGA hat most likely contributed to his selection. The MSM has been trying to paint PDJT as a racist since he began running for President. They have been somewhat successful at this with some people even though they have no evidence of such (just like there is no evidence of Russian collusion). The older man probably knew this could be a factor in getting the video broadcast. So the MSM’s anti-Trump hysteria was probably a factor.
Another factor was probably the anti-Catholic hatred of the Democratic left and, by extension, their media lap dogs. This was an attack on Catholic schools just as the Brett Kavanaugh charade was as well. In the Kavanaugh case the school recognized that the attack on Kavanaugh was groundless. They understood that the Democrats were trying to discredit all Catholic education. The school stood up for itself and its values.
Here the Bishop fell right into the trap that was laid for him. The media has already started a witch hunt looking for anything they can throw against the wall to discredit the school and, by extension, Catholic education.
When and how will all this end? The future is certainly clouded at the moment. However, there are rays of sanity peering through. Legal remedies are being explored. The Gateway Pundit reports that Kenton County (which contains Covington) prosecutor Rob Sanders is leading an investigation.
If a few people from outside Kentucky are indicted under a terroristic threat statute, maybe it would wake up a lot of others. One can hope. Another area being explored is civil suits. Apparently some parents have already retained legal representation.
The Democrats would like to paint Kentucky as a backwards place that is not “woke” to the realities of 21stcentury life. Based on what took place this past weekend one would have to say that Kentuckians in Covington are wide awake and were well represented by their young people in Washington.
