The clown show continues in Washington. Every time I think that the Democrats could not stoop any lower in their quest for more power or to keep the power they have, they prove me wrong. Apparently complete derangement is setting in.
Last week during a House committee hearing with the acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan, congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D-IL) accused Homeland Security of intentionally killing migrant children.
While the acting Secretary was testifying about resource deployment from the FY2019 budget, Underwood interrupted him with “people keep dying.” She went on to say,
“This is obviously more than a question of resources. Congress has been more than willing to provide the resources and work with you to address the security and humanitarian concerns, but at this point, with five kids that have died, 5,000 separated from their families, I feel like — and the evidence is really clear — that this is intentional. It’s a policy choice being made on purpose by this administration and it’s cruel and inhumane.”
She immediately yielded back to the Chair. Perhaps she thought that would prevent the Secretary from saying anything.
McAleenan responded,
“That’s an appalling accusation, and our men and women fight hard to protect people in our custody every single day. We’ve asked for these resources three weeks ago — it hasn’t been responded to by Congress — and we’ve asked for changes in authorities for the last three years that would’ve prevented this from happening.”
At this point committee counsel advised the chair to ask for a clarification from Underwood. She restated word for word what she had said, reading from her prepared remarks. This was no “heat of the moment” statement. This whole charade was intentional.
This is unbelievable. The border is being overwhelmed with the numbers of migrants who are crossing illegally. This is due directly to Democratic refusal to secure the border. More and more of the public, especially those in border areas are acknowledging the crisis. Even elements of the MSM are reporting this. The Democrats apparently feel that they must lie to the public again. They have to deflect attention from their failure to act to prevent or to ameliorate this crisis. So they accuse the administration of killing children on purpose.
How low can they go? What will be next? Will the Democrats accuse ICE agents of roaming the border looking for migrants to shoot?
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), the ranking member on the committee, called for a vote to strike Underwood’s comments from the official record.
Ten Democrats were not present at the hearing. There were only seven Democrats present out of the 17 on the committee. They were outnumbered by the nine Republicans who voted to strike Underwood’s comments. The motion carried 9-7. All the Democrats voted to keep her statements in the record.
One would have thought that, with all of the Democrat’s stated concerns about the crisis at the border, more would have showed up to a committee meeting regarding that. I guess the optics were not right.
