Despite her youth, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one the most recognizable names in the Democratic party. Why is that? Because AOC has become a national laughing stock due to her many ridiculous statements on many different subjects.
Her most recent misstep came when AOC claimed during a town hall meeting that the recent rise in violent crime in NYC was due to desperate residents fearing eviction and searching for bread to feed their families.
The surge of violence in NYC (violent crime rates doubling and tripling) is well known. AOC said,
“Do we think this has to do with the fact that there’s record unemployment in the United States right now? Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent. And so they go out and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money. So, you maybe have to — they’re put in a position where they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry that night.”
Shoplifting is not where the surge in crime is in NYC. Apparently AOC is living in some alternate universe which she occasionally leaves to visit with us.
Trey Gowdy slammed AOC for her ignorance.
“Was the 1-year-old killed in New York because that child was holding a loaf of bread? I mean, poor people are no more likely to cause you harm than rich people are. That is not the line of demarcation. It is not whether or not you are rich or poor. It is whether you are law-abiding or not law-abiding.”
“So, the spike in murder cases, the spike in auto-theft, the spike in burglaries: what in the hell does that have to do with being hungry?”
“Go check the criminal histories of the people committing these murders. See how many of them are committing their first criminal offense since the pandemic started and see how many of them are career offenders, where this is just the culmination of a lifetime of crime that resulted in murder. I’ll bet you they are not first-time offenders.”
Most people understand there is only one reason for the crime surge in New York City and many other major cities across the United States. It is Democrat mayors and governors demonizing the police. It is Democratic mayors and governors trying to defund the police that is causing law enforcement to turn over control of the streets to violent criminals.
If AOC does not understand this, she should not be serving drinks let alone serving in Congress.
