Seems appropriate to our situation today.
The First Amendment guarantees Americans the right to speak their minds. The U.S. government, along with other governments around the world, continues to investigate “hate speech” with an eye toward criminalizing the expression of certain ideas. This is a clear attempt to suppress ideas that threaten the politicians in office. A generation is now being raised NOT to believe in freedom OF speech, but rather that they should have freedom FROM speech—from speech they dislike.
The song itself was written in the 80’s probably as a tribute to the end of the Soviet Union. But it seems oh so appropriate for our time.
