“Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) (AOC) is under fire for claiming the American Revolution was all about fighting against “billionaires.” The Boston University grad (yes, her degree was in economics), said, “The American Revolution was against the billionaires of their time, and we are declaring independence from such an extreme marriage of wealth and the state.”
AOC’s speech was given at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics.
AOC displayed her absolute cluelessness in making a statement like this. George Washington and five or six other founding fathers were among the wealthiest in the colonies at the time of the American revolution. Many of them gave substantial money to support the cause.
The blowback was impressive. Senator Mike Lee:
“No, AOC, the American Revolution was NOT ‘against the billionaires of their time. It was against a large, distant, overly intrusive government that recognized no limits over its own authority to tax, regulate, and eat out the substance of the citizens it claimed to serve.”
Senator Ted Cruz eviscerated AOC.

The numbers Cruz did not say out loud but did not need to. AOC has spent 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 $𝟏𝟕𝟒,𝟎𝟎𝟎𝐟𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐲 she did not earn from any productive enterprise, while writing tax legislation against the 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐤,𝐁𝐞𝐳𝐨𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 whose tax revenue funds her paycheck.
Her compatriot-in -arms standing behind her, Sen. Bernie Sanders, used to rail against millionaires. Then someone pointed out that he was a millionaire and he changed his verbiage to billionaires. These people are clueless hypocrites.
AOC has no concept of how economics actually works. It must be a zero sum game to her where because one person has a lot of wealth that somehow this was taken from other people. If you make something that people want to buy and you sell it at a lower cost than others, people will beat a path to your door.
Steve Jobs made his first 200 Apple computers by hand. His vision of what people wanted enabled him to become fabulously wealthy. Henry Ford was the same way. Ford streamlined and modernized making cars so that they became affordable for many people. And let’s not even talk about Elon Musk.
This speech and others that AOC has given recently in her attempt to begin a run for the Presidency, continue to fuel rumors about her degree from Boston University. According to the most recent version, if you drive through Boston with your window down, BU will toss an economics degree into your car. That is absolutely not true. You have to stop the car first. Let it be noted that fools in important positions are dangerous, particularly in government positions. In a capitalist endeavor, incompetence is weeded out. In government, it digs in like a tick.
As Sen. Kennedy (R-LA) noted, “You are probably not the dumbest person alive, but you better hope the dumbest one does not die.”
