Odds & Ends

The Democrats are celebrating the end of the Electoral College.

There’s something called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. It has been quietly working its way through state legislatures since 2006.

Under the Constitution, states have the authority to determine how they appoint their presidential electors. Nearly every state currently awards its electoral votes to the candidate who wins that state’s popular vote.  There are two states that can award electoral votes to both candidates.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact would change that.  States joining the agreement promise to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the national popular vote, regardless of which candidate wins their own state.  The Compact would go into effect when the total electoral College votes of the states who have signed reaches 270.

Of course, there would be legal challenges.  How that would work out is not at all clear.

Byron Daniels, a Republican from Florida, made history Tuesday by being elected to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.  Daniels is the first black governor in the state’s history.

According to a far-left viewpoint expressed on MSNOW, Daniels needs an asterisk because he has left the Democratic plantation.  His politics are not within the limits that define who is politically allowed to be black.

Sanders Townsend said:

“I will say, though, you know, as they say in my community, all kinfolk ain’t skinfolk.”

“And what I say and what I mean by that is Byron Donalds is making history, but he is going to continue the political direction that Ron DeSantis is going to continue in Florida”

Not all Democrats were as stupid as the one on MSNOW.

Cynthia Chestnut, a Democrat, noted:

“This is a new day, and that’s what it says to Florida. You’re going to have to reassess how you look at black leadership.”

“I endorsed him because I was impressed with his campaign philosophy and what he planned to do for Florida. So this is a great day for Florida. It’s a great day for all the children of Florida because it says to them, you too can be governor of the state of Florida.”

I say congratulations to Byron Daniels on his accomplishment of being elected governor.

MA Rothman notes:

The closing bell on Wall Street told the story before Washington even finished counting the votes. The 𝐃𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝟏,𝟖𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬, the S&P 500 fell more than 4%, and the Nasdaq sank 5.5%, CNBC anchors reported live—the worst single session for stocks since April 2025.

Tech bore the brunt. Chipmakers AMD, Micron, Lam Research and Marvell each fell 13% or more. CoreWeave, a Wall Street darling just a month ago, dropped 10% and has now been 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 in four weeks. SanDisk lost 20% in a single day.

President Trump didn’t wait for the spin cycle to start. On Truth Social, he wrote plainly: “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”

Markets don’t vote, but they do react, and what they reacted to was a House about to hand gavels to the same party that spent two years promising higher taxes, more regulation and a return to the spending binge that fueled the inflation Americans just lived through. Wall Street ran the numbers before Main Street gets the bill.
