Helene has devastated sections of the western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee.   The devastation in some areas is unreal.  Not only have the main artery roads, interstates and bridges been wiped out, but also communication lines, fiber optic cables, transmission towers, cell towers, the works have been destroyed.

Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy once again has raised the possibility about chemical weapons use by Russia.  Zelenskyy wants more sanctions against Russia to prevent the possible use of such weapons.  Such discussions of chemical weapons use is the instrument that Zelenskyy is currently using to solicit more support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.

A new Gallup poll shows that President Biden is in first place at last.  Biden has suffered from declining popularity with the American public.  In fact, his poll ratings have been historical markers for unpopularity.

However, in a recent poll Biden came in first.  Biden beat out brussels sprouts for America’s least favorite vegetable. Press secretary Psaki complained that the characterization of Biden as a vegetable was a bit unfair.  Psaki pointed out that Biden did move about of his own accord from time to time.

Preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Ida should be completed today.  Ida is gaining strength rapidly.  She’s pushing a lot of water.  Wind field – NHS reflects approximately 60 miles across of hurricane winds and 250 miles of tropical storm winds.  People in the coastal area of Louisiana and Mississippi should  pay close attention to local officials and heed all evacuation orders.  [National Hurricane Center]
