Robert Kennedy would not recognize the Democratic Party today. Not only do they flout the law, they boast about breaking it. Not only do they tolerate what they know to be wrong, they join in and wallow in it.
The Democrats believe themselves to be above the law. Some within the Democratic Party who know about wrongdoing, are too deeply involved to speak out. Others are too frightened to speak up. This is, perhaps, understandable in light of the number of people in the past who were ready to speak out who met an untimely end.
Even on the other side of the aisle there are not a lot of people with the backbone to stand up for what is right. But, they do exist. The conspiracy to overthrow the Trump administration was uncovered by one man. And that man refused to close his eyes and look the other way. He refused to accept that evil was just business as usual. He did speak up. His name is Devin Nunes.
Nunes, during the course of his duties as a member of the House Intelligence Committee, uncovered troubling information about the FBI spying on the Trump campaign. Nunes dug deep. He spent hours in a basement SCIF studying, researching and understanding what the Obama administration had tried to do.
Nunes came away shocked and shaken by what he uncovered. And then they came after him. The first attempt was to try to smear him using an old reliable operation out of the Deep State playbook. They tried to connect him to asex party with underage girls that was tangentially connected to an investment he had. Once again, the Democrats were projecting their own weaknesses onto others. There was no basis for any of this. However, as everyone has seen in the recent, Justice Kavanaugh is one example, this means nothing to the Democrats. They will do anything to stay in power.
When this failed, the Left then filed ethics charges against him for doing what he is supposed to be doing. This led him to step away from his leading of the investigation until he was cleared of all wrongdoing. This was a transparent ploy to try to silence him.
Then they went after his family. One Ryan Lizza went after his father and brother in Iowa with a scathing article. The purpose of the article was clear. It was to damage the reputation of Devin Nunes. Nunes’ father and brother are now suing for slander.
Through all of this Nunes stood firm in his pursuit of the truth. Eventually the Republican members of his committee published what has come to be known as the Nunes Memo. It detailed and got the ball rolling about the abuse of the FISA court warrants that was going on. It led to the heavily redacted, 99-page report issued by FISA judge Collyer. The report was scathing in its review of Obama administration practices in using the FISA court. It indicated that 85% of the uses of a specific query were illegal and likely deliberate.
The Democrats countered with what has come to be known as the Schiff Memo. The Schiff memo was cleverly written. It tried to confuse the facts. However, it failed to discredit the findings of the Nunes memo. In fact, to date, no factual assertion in the Nunes Memo has been found to be untrue. Most of the Schiff Memo has been discredited.
On Thursday President Trump thanked many people who helped defend him from the baseless charges that the Left and their allies in the media have throwing at him. In particular, he had this to say about Devin Nunes.
“And a man nobody has ever heard of, except the other side. He’s the other side’s worst nightmare. This guy goes down into dungeons and basements; he’ll find a document, no matter what. He’s the most legitimate human being. He’s the hardest worker. He’s unbelievable. He took tremendous abuse. I mean, abuse.
The — the media and, you know, the other side, and the bad ones, the leakers, the liars, the dirty cops — they wanted to destroy him. They tried. They got close, but he wouldn’t let it happen. And, honestly, in a certain way, he was the first one. Wouldn’t you say, Jim and Mark and everybody? This was the first guy. He came out of nowhere. He’s saying, “These people are corrupt.” He’s still saying it. And he was unbelievable. Devin Nunes. He was unbelievable. Unbelievable. (Applause.) That’s so true, Devin.
He’d come in and say — I didn’t even know hi;, I just heard there were like — there was this congressman who kept going into a basement — into files. (Laughter.) He knew something was wrong. You felt it, right? And now we know a lot more than we knew then, right? You never thought it was as bad as it is. And hopefully we’re going to take care of things, because we can never, ever allow this to happen again. (Applause.)”
Devin Nunes is a fighter for the truth. Robert Kennedy would have been proud to know him. Nunes is a true American hero.
