Political Terororism

Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke at an event with various governments for a Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism.  The event focuses on the reemergence of this threat to society by far-left political actors and encourages stronger joint action to reinforce frontline defenses and close the gaps the terrorist actors continue to exploit.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a remarkable speech to the audience. Within his remarks Rubio outlines the history of left-wing violence and lists current examples of how dangerous this has become. In many ways this is the anti-Obama speech that has long been needed.

This speech is worth 20 minutes of your time.

This is the kind of speech we have needed in this country for a long time.  This is a moment that can reset how we view terrorism in the 21st century, shifting from the terror-threat focus from Islamic extremism to the more pervasive threat from left-wing political violence.

I do not believe for a minute that the terror threat from Islamic extremism has ended. It most definitely remains alive and well. However, what is worse is seeing the left-wing political class embracing Islam at the same time it turns a blind eye to left-wing political violence (generous interpretation) or actively supports it (non-pretending interpretation).

I am not sure how many people will hear this speech especially in view of the revelations from Trump’s address on Thursday.  However, Rubio has thrown down the gauntlet.  Let us see what comes of his efforts in this arena.
