Know Nothings

It is sometimes amazing the lack of knowledge of people who stake out positions on the current state of reality in this country.  Or, in fact, in many places around the world particularly in Europe right now.

A Twitter character known as “el gato malo” was great during the COVID scam at exposing just how little knowledge people had about various aspects of the government’s response to the “greatest threat to human health” in history.  More recently he has been digging up examples of people, mostly college students, who decide to debate a Turning Point USA spokesman and who know nothing about the subject that they are bringing up.

El gato malo’s point:

100% conviction
0% comprehension

It’s a magic word cult.  They do not even understand what the words they are speaking mean.

They think they are magic spells that make people have to agree with them and that silence dissent.  This is the sort of empty-headed, addle-brained identity that emerges from years of cosseted cancel culture.

They argue by assertions they cannot even explain, much less defend.  It can only sustain itself by suppressing debate and discussion.  It disintegrates like a sugar sculpture in a thunderstorm when challenged or asked to explain itself.

Here’s an example of a conversation between a college student and a TPUSA spokesman about capitalism.

Young Person: What do you mean, “what is capitalism”?

TPUSA Person: What would you define capitalism as?

Young Person: Okay.

TPUSA Person: Because you said capitalism is causing the ills of the people in this country.

Young Person: Yeah.

TPUSA Person: And so I’m asking you to define capitalism.

Young Person: No, I’m saying that it’s not immigrants that are causing the problems for America. I would say that it’s capitalism.

TPUSA Person: Sure. Just tell me what capitalism is.

Young Person: Okay.

At this point, the young lady gives up and walks away.  She had been making a point how those who have money are the problem in our country.   However, when asked to define the central idea, capitalism, in her arguments she cannot do so.  Clearly she has no understanding of how a capitalistic economy works.  Now one could argue just how free our capitalistic economy is.  And that would probably be a fruitful discussion.  However, to do so, one must have a basic understanding of the term capitalism.

Tom Woods:

There are plenty of things that are harming her — special privileges for everyone who arrives here who doesn’t look like her, a Federal Reserve that debased the dollar by 29 percent in just the past six years, a medical care and “insurance” system so shot through with regulatory absurdities and industry self-interest as to bear zero resemblance to a cost-cutting free market, and on and on — but “capitalism” ain’t one of them.

The bottom one percent is doing a lot more to make her life difficult than the top one percent is. She is certainly not suffering from anyone’s “hoarding” of wealth — the wealthy people she’s been told to despise have their money tied up in productive investments, and ordering them to liquidate those so she can have 20 bucks would make her cohort drastically worse off than they are now.

This woman had never been challenged on her assumptions.  This woman had heard slogans and sound bytes without ever questioning just what those were based on.  One of the more popular slogans is that America is a “nation of immigrants.”  This has been advanced by Democratic politicians who want open borders so that they can send such people money and get them to vote Democratic either legally or illegally.

Are we a nation of immigrants?  The answer is a resounding “No!”  Most Americans were born here.  Most citizens grew up in this country.  They did not come from somewhere else.  Of course, if one looks back far enough, immigration shows up.  Everybody has ancestors that came from somewhere else.

The Democrats want everyone to believe that all the people coming across the border are helpless refugees who have nowhere else to go.  This is a huge lie that has been told over and over.  The proof of this is that the vast percentage (over 90%) of denials of asylum claims.

The argument that we are a nation of immigrants is designed to get Americans to accept that the background of an immigrant does not matter.  It does matter.  Allowing criminals into the country does not benefit the country.  Allowing people in who would be parasites is also not good.  And many such people were allowed in and shipped into the interior of the country during the autopen presidency.

The woman in the conversation above had swallowed the slogans that immigrants are not a problem.  She cannot think for herself.  She can only regurgitate what her profs and other teachers have told her.  When she was challenged on that understanding, she had nothing to fall back on.  Un fortunately there are too many such people in the country.
